The future of public power was center stage at the recent 2011 FMEA-FMPA Annual Conference. Topics at the conference ranged from smart grid technology and electric cars to natural gas and the future of energy. Participants also heard from national energy experts who offered their insights on what utilities can expect during the next few years. Presentations from this year’s conference are now available on invitations” rel=”nofollow”>http://fmpa.com/index.php/news/request-for-proposals>invitations to bid last week. The first bid is for the decommission and disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) fluids and PCB contaminated equipment and materials for the city of Homestead, city of Green Cove Springs and Beaches Energy Services. CREAC Telephonic Meeting

FMPA’s Conservation and Renewable Energy Advisory Committee (CREAC) met last Thursday via conference call to discuss two proposed renewable energy opportunities. The ARP Executive Committee has previously directed staff to only recommend renewable opportunities that are near the All-Requirements Project’s avoided cost. This policy guidance and the CREAC’s feedback last week will help guide staff as they continue discussions with the renewable project developers. Contact: Michele Jackson

ARP Quarterly Conservation Program Report

FMPA released the ARP Conservation Program Quarterly Report last Friday for the third quarter of fiscal 2011. All-Rpuequirements Project (ARP) participants spent $151,458 on energy-saving measures for their customers during the third quarter, bringing the total to $657,641 for the fiscal year to date. Thus far, the energy-saving measures provided by ARP member utilities have the potential to save customers more than four million kilowatt hours each year. Participants in the program will be reimbursed for their conservation expenditures within the next couple of weeks. Contact: Sharon Smeenk

All-Requirements Project Monthly Load Statistics

The All-Requirements Project’s peak for July was 1,215 MW, which occurred July 29 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The project’s load factor for July was 69%. Load factor is a ratio of actual energy (MWh) used during the period versus what would have been consumed if demand was at peak for the entire period. A higher load factor indicates more effective system utilization and results in lower average costs. The month’s peak was 98% of the budgeted peak, and energy was 100% of the budget. A graph showing the All-Requirements Project hourly load for July is available on the Member Portal. Contact: Jim Atz
