3 Phase Times
FMPA’s Power Resources Division recently published the June 2013 edition of 3 Phase Times. This monthly report provides information about the All-Requirements Project’s system peak, hourly loads, resource fuel mix, natural gas usage, natural gas pricing and more performance information. The report shows that in June, a total of 12 kW of new renewable power generation capacity was added in Green Cove Springs and Key West. Members Share the Home Power Advantage
Fort Pierce Utilities Authority is spreading the word about the benefits of locally owned electric utilities by posting a link to http://www.homepoweradvantage.com>www.homepoweradvantage.com; on its website. The Home Power Advantage website was recently created by FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association so electric customers can lea more about where their power comes from and why it matters. Utilities Support Therapeutic Equestrian Center
Representatives of FMPA and Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) announced donations to Heavenly Hoofs Therapeutic Equestrian Center last Thursday. Heavenly Hoofs is a nonprofit organization based in Kissimmee, Fla., that provides equine-assisted therapy to enhance the mental, emotional and physical well-being of individuals with disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. FMPA employees donated $1,000 to help Heavenly Hoofs purchase equipment for its therapeutic riding program that will assist riders with disabilities. KUA recently donated $50,000 to purchase a hydraulic lift system for disabled clients and a pickup truck for Heavenly Hoofs’ Pony Express program. Pony Express makes equine therapy “house calls to children with serious illnesses or disabilities. A picture from the presentation is available on the Member Portal.

Interim Audit
FMPA’s independent auditors, Purvis Gray and Company, will be at FMPA’s Orlando office beginning Monday to conduct the interim audit. The interim audit helps prepare for FMPA’s annual audit, which takes place after the close of the fiscal year. The auditors will review financial information for the Agency and FMPA’s power supply projects. Contact: Rick Minch

Groundman Certificate Program
Electric Cities of Georgia will host a groundman certificate program Sept. 10 through Sept. 13 at the Adel Training Center in Adel, Ga. Course topics will include: 1) basic electricity, 2) truck set-up, 3) rigging, knots and ropes, 4) pole setting, 5) electrical system overview, 6) bucket truck rescue and more. PSC Nominations Narrowed to 11
The Florida Public Service Commission Nominating Council announced a list last Wednesday of 11 nominees who will advance to the next stage of the commission’s selection process. The list included sitting commissioners Ronald Brise and Art Graham, whose terms expire in January 2014, and former lawmaker and Public Service Commissioner Ken Littlefield. Littlefield was appointed to the commission by former Gov. Jeb Bush in September 2006, but was replaced by former Gov. Charlie Crist in January 2007. The candidates will be interviewed by the nominating council Aug. 28 in Orlando. After the interviews, the list will be shortened to six candidates. Gov. Rick Scott is expected to make an appointment from that list. His appointments will then require confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Winter Park to Invest in Solar Energy
Winter Park city commissioners voted 3-2 last Monday to enter into a power purchase contract with Clean Footprint to build a 2.25 MW solar canopy at the city’s public works compound. The 4.4-acre canopy will cover the parking lot in front of the compound and provide 0.6% of the city’s electricity. Officials hope to begin construction in October and start operations in early 2014.
