Members Share the Home Power Advantage

Ocala is spreading the word about the benefits of locally owned electric utilities by posting a link to http://www.homepoweradvantage.com>www.homepoweradvantage.com; on its website and social media channels. The Home Power Advantage website was recently created by FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association so electric customers can lea more about where their power comes from and why it matters. FMPA encourages all members to share the website and its messages with their customers. If you have shared the website or plan to, contact Diane Nelson.

3 Phase Times

FMPA’s Power Resources Division published the July 2013 edition of 3 Phase Times. This monthly report provides information about the All-Requirements Project’s (ARP) system peak, hourly loads, resource fuel mix, natural gas usage, natural gas pricing and more performance information. The report shows that in July, FMPA purchased 23,843 MWh from the Florida Municipal Power Pool and sold 35,209 MWh, resulting in net sales of 11,366 MWh. The short-term forecast estimated 16,759 MWh of net sales. The lower net sales were due to lower load requirements because of mild temperatures due to rain. For more information, download 3 Phase Times from the Member Portal. Contact: Tom Reedy

THIS WEEK

Strategic Planning Survey

Members of FMPA’s Board of Directors and ARP Executive Committee are reminded to complete the online strategic planning surveys by close of business Monday. There are two separate surveys, one for the Board and one for the Executive Committee, so members need to complete both surveys if they belong to both groups. The purpose of the surveys is to collect members’ thoughts in order to maximize time in the strategic planning workshops on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. FMPA staff members have developed some initial suggestions for consideration, but members’ ideas and feedback are essential to creating successful strategic plans. The surveys generally take about 15 minutes to complete, and the responses are anonymous. If you have any questions or would like to see the survey questions before opening the online survey, contact Mark McCain.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Lineman Appreciation Day

Florida’s electric lineworkers are being honored Monday as utilities across the state celebrate the second annual Lineworker Appreciation Day. Last year, the Florida House of Representatives passed a resolution designating Aug. 26 as Lineworker Appreciation Day, which honors the thousands of men and women who risk their lives to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity throughout the state. The date was chosen in honor of Marc Moore, a lineman for Lakeland Electric who died in an electrical accident on Aug. 26, 2002.
