INDUSTRY NEWS

PSC Approves TECO’s Base Rate Increase

The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) unanimously approved last Wednesday Tampa Electric Co.’s (TECO) proposed base rate settlement effective Nov. 1. TECO originally requested a base rate increase of $10.41, but recently reached an agreement with consumer advocates for an increase of $5.67. The monthly bill for a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month will increase from $102.58 to $108.25. The approval also allows TECO to increase monthly bills for typical residential customers by $1.09 in 2014 and by 46 cents in 2015. TECO is also requesting a fuel cost increase in January, which the PSC will consider by November. If approved, the monthly bill for a typical residential customer would increase by $1.27 to $109.52.
