Fort Pierce Representatives

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) appointed its incoming Director of Utilities Clay Lindstrom as the utility’s representative to FMPA’s Board of Directors and ARP Executive Committee effective March 18. Clay replaces Bill Thiess, who announced his retirement from FPUA effective April 3. FPUA Director of Electric and Gas SystemsPaul Jakubczak will continue to serve as the city’s alteate representative on both goveing boards. Contact: Nick Guarriello

 

Treasure Coast Energy Center

Treasure Coast Energy Center Unit 1 was taken offline last Friday for a scheduled maintenance outage. During the outage, repairs will be made to the steam and combustion turbines. Unit 1 is scheduled to come back online April 4. Contact: David Schumann

 

All-Requirements Project February Load Statistics
The All-Requirements Project’s non-Contract Rate of Delivery (CROD) peak for February was 1,119 MW, which occurred Feb. 20 between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. The project’s load factor for February was 52%. Load factor is a ratio of actual energy (MWh) used during the period versus what would have been consumed if demand was at peak for the entire period. A higher load factor indicates more effective system utilization and results in lower average costs. The month’s peak was 112% of the budgeted peak, and energy was 104% of the budget. A

ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop

The ARP Executive Committee meets Friday at 3 p.m. via conference call for the monthly All-Requirements Project rate workshop. The agenda includes: 1) an update on natural gas markets and liquidity, 2) an overview of February operations, loads, costs and rate calculations, and 3) estimated rates for March through May. FMEA Legislative Rally

The Florida Legislative Rally is scheduled for March 30 and March 31 in Tallahassee. Florida Lineman Competition

Register today for the 15th annual Florida Lineman Competition scheduled for April 17 and April 18 in Tallahassee. To celebrate its 15th year, the competition will include a special Senior Joueyman Team Division. FMPA sponsors the top prizes, which pay travel expenses for the top apprentice and top team to attend a national competition. Energy Auditor Roundtable

FMPA’s semi-annual Energy Auditor Roundtable is May 14 at 10 a.m. in Fort Pierce. INDUSTRY NEWS

 

FPL to Build Solar Project at Daytona Inteational Speedway

Florida Power & Light (FPL) plans to build a 1.7 MW distributed solar power project at the Daytona Inteational Speedway. The $7 million project will put more than 5,000 solar panels on canopy-like structures, which will provide shade for race fans, power Speedway operations and add electricity to FPL’s grid. FPL plans to install the solar panels this fall and have them provide energy to the electric grid by the end of the year.
