Policy Makers Liaisons Committee

FMPA’s Policy Makers Liaisons Committee met last Wednesday for presentations on the ARP Business Model Working Group and FMPA’s hedging policy, as well as a roundtable discussion of energy conservation programs. The meeting was attended by six policy makers in person and two more joined via conference call. Excellent interaction and discussion took place, and the meeting lasted an hour longer than planned. The Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2010, at FMPA from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact: Mark McCain

 

ARP Executive Committee

The ARP Executive Committee met last Thursday and approved action items, including: 1) a policy for adding member requests to the agenda, 2) a line of credit with Wachovia, 3) a natural gas storage contract with Florida Gas Utility, 4) a revised contract with The Energy Authority, and 5) a contract to install a 31 kW solar photovoltaic system at the Eco Discovery Center in Key West, Fla. An action item regarding payments for Lake Worth natural gas transportation was tabled until the December meeting.

 

ARP Business Model Working Group

The ARP Business Model Working Group (BMWG) met last Thursday after the Executive Committee meeting for its third discussion of FMPA’s hedging policies. The Group adopted a motion to recommend a new hedging method presented by staff, called the FMPA Short-Term Plan, to the Audit and Risk Oversight Committee (AROC). After consideration, AROC may recommend the method to the Executive Committee. The BMWG scheduled its next meeting for 10 a.m. on Nov. 5 at the Agency. The next topic for discussion is FMPA’s power supply.

 

CR3 Outage Update

The Crystal River Unit 3 nuclear plant refueling outage is currently on budget and 12 days behind its planned 77-day schedule. A select technical team is continuing its investigation of a crack in the concrete containment building. Core concrete samples are currently being analyzed to determine the age of the crack. ARP Top Accomplishments Document

FMPA’s Public Relations Department has updated a document originally created for the 20th anniversary of the All-Requirements Project. The “ARP Top 20 Accomplishments in 20 Years document has been amended to reflect significant accomplishments since 2006. This one-page document is available on the Public Relations section of the Member Portal.

IT Steering Committee
FMPA’s IT Steering Committee meets this Tuesday at noon to discuss the Protiviti Audit. Contact: Carter Manucy

 

Rating Agency Visits
Nick Guarriello,
Mark Larson, Janet Davis and FMPA’s financial advisor Craig Dunlap will travel to New York Thurday and Friday. The group will meet with various rating agencies to discuss FMPA’s debt issuance plans.

 

Economic Stimulus Work Group
The Economic Stimulus Work Group will meet by conference call Wednesday at 9 a.m. to discuss Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants from the Florida Energy & Climate Commission. Contact: Sharon Smeenk

 

Transmission Allocation Meeting

Jody Finklea, Rich Popp and Tom Reedy will meet with representatives from Kissimmee Utility Authority on Wednesday to discuss transmission allocation.

 

Social Media Project
FMPA’s Public Relations Department meets Thursday afteoon to begin its investigation of social media. The project an action item in FMPA’s strategic plan to investigate emerging communication tools and their applications for supporting the Agency’s business goals. Contact: Skye Guthrie

 

Conservation DVD
A prototype link for the online version of the All-Requirements Project’s energy conservation video will be sent to members this week for testing. The final product will soon be available for members to embed on their own Web sites. Purchasing Roundtable

Participants in FMPA’s annual Purchasing Roundtable will meet Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at Kissimmee Utility Authority. The roundtable will provide a forum for purchasing personnel to discuss work procedures, policies and practices, industry changes and other topics of interest. Visit
