Business Planning and Budget Committee
FMPA’s Business Planning and Budget Committee met last Friday to begin work on the fiscal 2012 budget. The Committee reviewed the Agency budget in detail. The proposed Agency budget for fiscal 2012 totals $13,559,049, or $75,613 less than the fiscal 2011 budget, in spite of funding for some significant new expenditures. The Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for May 11 in FMPA’s Board room at 9:30 a.m. to review the Agency budget for a second time. Contact: Mark Larson

Business Model Working Group
The All-Requirements Project Business Model Working Group meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Board room to discuss Public Gas Partners. The agenda package is available on the Member Portal. Contact: Nick Guarriello
Safety Training Steering Committee
FMPA hosts a Safety Training Steering Committee meeting Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Board room. Members participating in the Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG) Lineman’s Safety Training Program are encouraged to attend, and all other members are welcome to lea more about the safety program and other service offerings through FMPA’s alliance membership with ECG. Member City Visits
Bud Boudreaux travels to the Panhandle this week for member city visits. His first stops will be Havana and the Florida Municipal Electric Association on Wednesday. The next day he travels to Quincy and Blountstown and makes his final stop Friday at Chattahoochee.

Executive Committee OATT Workshop
The All-Requirements Project Executive Committee will hold a workshop May 10 in the Board room at 10 a.m. to discuss the open access transmission tariff, member agreements, and cost and revenue stream. Contact: Frank Gaffney
Energy Auditors Roundtable
FMPA’s semi-annual Energy Auditors Roundtable will be held May 19 at 10 a.m. in Lake Worth. The roundtable provides a forum to discuss work procedures and policies, industry changes, equipment and other topics of interest. Contact: Sharon Samuels

Bill Conrad Elected Mayor of Newberry
Newberry City Commissioner and FMPA Board member Bill Conrad was elected mayor of Newberry last week. Conrad unseated incumbent Mayor Harry Nichols with 503 votes to Nichols’ 316. The election drew the largest voter tuout in city history.
EPRI Analysis Estimates Cost, Benefits of Developing Smart Grid
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) released a broad assessment of the costs and benefits to modeize the U.S. electricity system. Factoring in a wide range of new technologies, applications and consumer benefits, the cost to implement a fully functional smart grid ranges from $338 billion to $476 billion and could result in benefits between $1.3 trillion and $2 trillion. The report says additional benefits of the smart grid include: 1) more reliable power delivery with fewer outages, 2) enhanced cyber security, 3) a more efficient grid with reduced energy losses, 4) better support for renewable energy and electric-drive vehicles, and 5) potentially lower costs for customers through more pricing options and access to energy information.
