INDUSTRY NEWS

FPL Proposes Fuel Rate Reduction for 2012

Florida Power & Light filed last Monday with the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) proposing a reduction in its anticipated 2012 fuel costs. If the lower rate is approved by the PSC, a residential customer that uses 1,000 kWh will see a decrease of $1.92 to $94.62. Earlier this month, the PSC approved a $2.61 fuel charge increase for FPL next year. The company now says it will need $460 million less than previously anticipated  due to falling natural gas prices. The reduction would offset a $1.87 monthly increase in 2012 to upgrade existing nuclear reactors and build new ones.
