Public Power Week
FMPA and its members joined other public power utilities across the United States last week in celebrating Public Power Week. New Smya Beach Utilities Commission hosted an energy exposition in downtown New Smya Beach. Activities included children’s activities, lineman demonstrations, a pedal-a-watt stationary bike and a drawing for a new, energy efficient refrigerator. Keys Energy Services donated 10 electricity monitors to the Key West and Big Pine Key public libraries for residents to check out and measure the amount of electricity that electronics and appliances use. The city of Ocala hosted a golf touament and gave out energy efficiency information and popco in their front lobby. Several members issued news releases and had proclamations issued by their local city council or utility board.
FMPA-ECG Alliance Steering Committee
The FMPA-ECG Alliance Steering Committee held its inaugural meeting last Tuesday. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to enhance communication and promote the success of FMPA’s Alliance membership with Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG). During the meeting, participants discussed ECG programs and the ability for all members to participate, including those not actively involved in monthly safety training programs. The Committee also elected Mount Dora Electric Utility Manager Charles Revell as Liaison. In this role, Charles will serve as the representative for FMPA’s members in working with ECG staff. Continuous Emissions Monitoring System
FMPA issued an Utility” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.usoln.org/>Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network (USOLN). The course is designed to help participants prepare for the CUSP exam, but it is not a requirement. Topics of discussion will include: 1) standards, 2) hazard identification, 3) incident prevention, 4) leadership skills, 5) human performance, and 6) operations. Energy Auditors Roundtable
FMPA’s Energy Auditors Roundtable is scheduled for Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at Lakeland Electric. The roundtable provides a forum to discuss work procedures, policies, industry changes, equipment and other topics of interest. DHS, Energy Department Schedule Briefings on Cyber Attacks
The Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Energy released a schedule last Wednesday of classified and unclassified briefings on the latest cyber attacks targeting the energy infrastructure. Nine briefings will be held beginning Oct. 17 in New York City and concluding Dec. 12 in Atlanta, Ga. The presentations will include new information about emerging threats against U.S. industrial control systems, as well as updated incident information, and adversary tactics, techniques and procedures. Information will be provided related to recent events, such as the Shamoon attacks, and risks to industrial control system supply chains.
