LAST WEEK

 

HVAC Upgrade

FMPA began contract negotiations with TLC Engineering for Architecture last Thursday to oversee replacement of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) at FMPA’s Orlando office. FMPA’s Facilities staff discussed goals for the project and provided TLC with an overview of the building and systems. TLC plans to provide FMPA with a proposal outlining costs and scope of work in the next few weeks. Contact: Sharon Smeenk

Member City Visits

Bud Boudreaux travels to Vero Beach on Monday to meet with City Manager Jim O’Connor. On Wednesday, Sharon Smeenk and Electric Cities of Georgia Regional Manager Donald Carver travel to Mount Dora to meet with Electric Utility Manager Charles Revell and to Kissimmee Utility Authority to meet with Vice President of Engineering and Operations Ken Davis.

 


Cane Island Unit 3

Cane Island Unit 3 comes back online Tuesday for testing after undergoing a scheduled maintenance outage. Unit 3 was taken offline last October to inspect the gas and steam turbines and update the control system hardware and software. The unit was originally scheduled to retu to service sooner, but the outage was extended due to a delay in the retu of parts and equipment that were shipped to General Electric’s repair facilities. Unit 3 is scheduled to retu to full operation Wednesday. Contact: David Schumann

 


Energy Auditor Training Workshop

FMPA hosts an Energy Auditor Training Workshop on Tuesday in partnership with Electric Cities of Georgia. Seventeen people are registered to participate. The workshop is designed for energy auditors, customer service representatives and utility personnel who provide customers with energy efficiency information. Discussion topics will include building envelope, HVAC, energy auditor tools and energy usage. Contact: Sharon Samuels

 


Policy Makers Liaisons Committee

FMPA’s Policy Makers Liaisons Committee meets Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the first-floor conference room to discuss: 1) the All-Requirements Project’s risk inventory and trend report, 2) a state legislative outreach project, 3) potential federal and state legislative issues related to electric utilities, and 4) a round table discussion of important electric issues in member communities. ARP Executive Committee Workshop

The ARP Executive Committee hosts a workshop Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Board room to discuss Taylor interest rate swaps. ARP Executive Committee

The All-Requirements Project Executive Committee meets Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Board room to discuss the approval of the revised capacity credit rate schedule. The Committee also will discuss informational items, including the status of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Reciprocating Inteal Combustion Engine rule, the city of Winter Park’s solicitation to negotiate wholesale power supply and more. Enterprise Risk Management Strategies Workshop

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) will host an Enterprise Risk Management Strategies Workshop on March 20 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The seminar will provide a foundation in enterprise risk management and tools to evaluate the risks that, if left unaddressed, could threaten an organization’s success. Discussion topics will include managing operational risk, labor risk, technology project risk and financial resources. The cost is $50. Visit FMEA’s http://publicpower.com/>website; to register.

 


Lineman’s Roundtable

FMPA’s semi-annual Lineman’s Roundtable is scheduled for May 9 at 10 a.m. at Fort Pierce Utilities Authority’s Energy Services Center. Bill Introduced to Subject Florida’s Municipal Utilities to PSC Regulation

Municipal electric utilities that serve any customers outside their city limits could be subject to regulation by the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) if a bill introduced last Tuesday in the Florida Legislature becomes law. Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-Vero Beach, introduced a bill in the House of Representatives (Today” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/prices.cfm>Today in Energy webpage. The agency is posting prices for wholesale petroleum products, energy futures—including heating oil, natural gas and coal—and select spot prices for natural gas and electricity to be delivered that day. The prices provide a daily snapshot of energy markets in the United States, EIA said. The information typically will be updated between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. each weekday, excluding federal holidays.
