Public Power Week

FMPA and its members joined public power utilities across the United States last week in celebrating Public Power Week. New Smya Beach Utilities Commission hosted a Public Power Day in downtown New Smya Beach. Activities included children’s games, a pedal-a-watt stationary bike, a display of electric service vehicles and a drawing for a new, energy-efficient refrigerator. Lakeland Electric held an open house for customers to see how electricity is generated, lea how to save energy and dollars, and experience hands-on operations of power equipment. The Kissimmee Utility Authority Board of Directors honored five KUA employees with a combined total of 50 years of service to the utility, hosted a weeklong celebration in its Customer Service department, and sponsored a Latin music festival. Several members issued news releases and posted messages on social media with links to the Home” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.homepoweradvantage.com/>Home Power Advantage campaign, and 5) important electric issues in members’ communities. Audit and Risk Oversight Committee

The Audit and Risk Oversight Committee meets Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Board room to discuss the acceptance and approval of all regulatory assets and liabilities created by accounting practices formerly known as Statement of Financial Accounting Standard #71 transactions. Board of Directors

The Board of Directors meets Thursday in the Board room at 9:30 a.m. or immediately following the Audit and Risk Oversight Committee meeting. The Board’s action items include: 1) evaluations of General Manager and CEO Nick Guarriello and General Counsel Fred Bryant, and 2) approval of fiscal 2013 budget amendments for the St. Lucie Project. ARP Executive Committee

The All-Requirements Project Executive Committee meets Thursday in the Board room at 10 a.m. or immediately following the Board of Directors meeting. The Executive Committee’s action items include: 1) approval of load retention credit, and 2) approval of the renewal of the Wells Fargo line of credit. Lineman’s Roundtable

FMPA’s semi-annual Lineman’s Roundtable is Thursday at 10 a.m. in Clewiston. The roundtable provides a forum for line crews to exchange ideas on operating practices, safety, training, tools, equipment and other common issues. Lunch will be provided. Contact: Sharon Samuels

 

All-Requirements Project Weekly Load Statistics

The weekly update of the All-Requirements Project historical load graph has been posted on the Member Portal. The graph is updated through Oct. 13. Contact: Jim Atz

Energy Auditor Roundtable

FMPA will hold an Energy Auditor Roundtable at Kissimmee Utility Authority on Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. This semi-annual roundtable provides a forum for participants to discuss topics such as work procedures, equipment and materials, site-specific issues and industry changes. http://fmpa.com/index.php/component/registrationpro/?view=event&did=22>Registration; is requested, and lunch will be provided. INDUSTRY NEWS

 

SAIC Changes Name to Leidos

SAIC Energy, Environment & Infrastructure separated into two companies last month, resulting in its name changing to Leidos Engineering. The company announced in August that it would divide its company in two, forming a company focused on govement services and a company specializing in technology for the national security, health and engineering sectors. The change will not affect the company’s banking and tax information, insurance or its responsibilities under existing contracts.
