APPA Customer Connections Conference
Diane Nelson is attending the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Customer Connections Conference on Monday through Wednesday in Portland, Ore. Public power utility personnel working in customer service, economic development, energy services, key accounts and public communications will attend the conference. Kissimmee Utility Authority’s Chris Gent will present a session on printed versus digital communication tools, Orlando Utilities Commission’s Roseann Harrington will present a session on trends in mobile apps and websites and a session on using technology to enhance the customer experience, Gainesville Regional Utilities’ Bill Shepherd will host a credit and collections roundtable, and Keys Energy Services’ Julio Torrado will present communication campaign case studies.
CR3 Participants’ Annual Meeting
The Crystal River Unit 3 (CR3) participants’ annual meeting is Thursday at 10 a.m. at the plant’s training facility. Discussion topics will include: 1) the plant’s status, 2) containment stabilization, 3) fiscal 2013 results, 4) fiscal 2014 budget, 5) nuclear fuel status, and 6) equipment salvage. ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee meets Thursday at 2 p.m. via conference call for the monthly All-Requirements Project rate workshop. The agenda includes: 1) an update on natural gas markets and liquidity, 2) an overview of October operations, loads, costs and rate calculations, and 3) estimated rates for November through January. COMING UP
Energy Auditor Roundtable
Thursday is the http://fmpa.com/index.php/component/registrationpro/?view=event&did=22>registration; deadline for FMPA’s Energy Auditor Roundtable scheduled for Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at Kissimmee Utility Authority. This semi-annual roundtable provides a forum for participants to discuss topics such as work procedures, equipment and materials, site-specific issues and industry changes. Lunch will be provided. Purchasing Roundtable
Nov. 25 is the http://fmpa.com/index.php/component/registrationpro/?view=event&did=10>registration; deadline for FMPA’s annual Purchasing Roundtable, scheduled for Dec. 5 at the Orlando office. The roundtable provides a forum for purchasing personnel to discuss work procedures, policies, industry changes, equipment and other topics of interest. Contact: Sharon Samuels

Kathy Viehe Named GRU Interim General Manager
The Gainesville City Commission voted last Thursday to name Kathy Viehe as Gainesville Regional Utility’s (GRU) Interim General Manager. She will replace Bob Hunzinger, who has announced his resignation effective Nov. 15. Viehe has 27 years of experience in the electric utility industry. She started at GRU in 1996 as the communications director and was promoted to marketing and communications director in 2000. She became an interim assistant general manager in 2006. In 2007, she was named the permanent assistant general manager for customer support services. Viehe previously worked for the municipal electric utilities in Memphis, Tenn., and Fort Pierce, Fla. She has a bachelor’s degree in joualism and a master’s degree in corporate communications, both from Memphis State University. Hunzinger will maintain the general manager responsibilities until his resignation date. Viehe’s promotion is contingent on Mayor Ed Braddy and Viehe successfully negotiating an employment agreement.
