IRS Mileage Rate Decrease
The Inteal Revenue Service (IRS) has decreased the standard mileage rate used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business effective Jan. 1, 2014. The rate decreased by one-half cent per mile from 56.5 cents to 56 cents. The rate has been updated in FMPA’s Travel Expense Report Form. Executive Committee members should use the updated form for any FMPA meeting-related travel after Jan. 1. The form is available on the Member Portal. Contact: Mark Larson

Welcome, Ashley
Please welcome Ashley Pawlik, who joins the staff on Monday as FMPA’s new public relations inte. Ashley is a student at the University of Central Florida where she is majoring in advertising/public relations with a minor in political science. We’re happy to have Ashley as a member of the FMPA team.
Treasure Coast Energy Center
Rich Popp and David Schumann meet Tuesday with representatives from FM Global and General Electric to discuss future maintenance outage schedules for Treasure Coast Unit 1’s gas and steam turbines.
APPA Legislative Rally
Mark McCain and Ryan Dumas meet Wednesday via conference call with Barry Moline and Amy Zubaly from the Florida Municipal Electric Association and FMPA’s lobbyist Michael Nolan to begin planning for the annual legislative rally in Washington, D.C. The rally hosted by the American Public Power Association (APPA) will be held March 10 to March 12. Anyone who plans to attend the rally should make their travel plans and register with APPA as soon as possible.
ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee meets Thursday at 2 p.m. via conference call for the monthly All-Requirements Project rate workshop. The agenda includes: 1) an update on natural gas markets and liquidity, 2) an overview of December operations, loads, costs and rate calculations, and 3) estimated rates for January through March. Pole Attachment Workshop
FMPA will host a Pole Attachment Workshop on Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. FMPA’s Legal Department will discuss model Joint Use and Pole Attachment Agreements developed for members and provide guidance for updating or implementing those agreements. Staff from Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG) will also discuss its Pole Attachment Service and share best practices. Distribution Reliability Roundtable
FMPA will host a Distribution Reliability Measurement Program Roundtable on March 5 at 10 a.m. The roundtable provides a forum for participants to discuss topics including: reporting process, definitions and interpretations, best practices and more. U.S. Electricity Sales Decreased in Four of the Past Five Years
Total U.S. electricity sales have declined in four of the past five years and are on track to continue to decline in 2013, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its Dec. 20 Annual” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.eia.gov/forecasts/aeo/er/index.cfm>Annual Energy Outlook released Dec. 16 projects relatively flat electricity use through 2015, after which growth resumes at near historical rates of nearly 1%.
