House Energy Committee Unveils Framework for Comprehensive Energy Package
The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee unveiled a legislative framework for a comprehensive energy package. The committee said last Monday that it will release a series of discussion drafts that address four key policy areas: 1) modeizing infrastructure, 2) a 21st century energy workforce, 3) energy diplomacy, and 4) efficiency and accountability. The framework provides details on what will be in the discussion drafts. For example, regarding infrastructure, the framework states that the draft to modeize the transmission, reliability and security of energy distribution will address the permitting challenges for current domestic and cross-border pipelines and transmission lines. It will also seek to protect critical energy infrastructure with improved emergency coordination and information sharing, ensure robust and transparent energy markets, and bring added levels of accountability to decision-makers. The committee plans to advance the discussion drafts in the coming months with the goal of bringing an energy package to the House floor later this year.
