INDUSTRY NEWS
Duke Seeks Early End to Nuclear Charge
Duke Energy Florida filed a petition with the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) last Monday asking to remove the nuclear cost recovery charge for a power plant in Levy County that won’t be built. If approved, the monthly charge of $3.45 per 1,000 kWh would end nearly two years early. Duke has collected $834 million of the $1.1 billion it spent for the project. The company projects that it could be eligible to recover an additional $90 million from customers through the state’s nuclear-cost recovery law. The PSC last October ordered Duke to refund $54 million it collected from ratepayers for the project.
