All-Requirements Project August Load Statistics
The All-Requirements Project’s non-Contract Rate of Delivery peak for August was 1,163 MW, which occurred Aug. 25 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The project’s load factor for August was 67%. Load factor is a ratio of actual energy (MWh) used during the period versus what would have been consumed if demand was at peak for the entire period. A higher load factor indicates more effective system utilization and results in lower average costs. The month’s peak was 99% of the budgeted peak, and energy was 101% of the budget. Mid-Hurricane Season Op-Ed
The month of September typically is the most active part of the Atlantic hurricane season, so now is a good time to remind customers that municipal electric utilities work hard to keep electricity reliable. FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) have developed an op-ed that talks about how municipal utilities are prepared for storms, how local utilities shine at providing reliable electric service in any weather, and if a hurricane strikes, municipal utilities work together through a mutual-aid agreement to quickly restore power. An email was sent Tuesday to FMPA’s Board of Directors with the op-ed and other details about submitting it to local newspapers. ARP Compliance Workshop
FMPA hosts a regulatory compliance workshop Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Board room for compliance specialists at All-Requirements Project (ARP) participants. The workshop will focus on Schedule C of the Reliability Standards Compliance Contract between FMPA and ARP participants. Contact: Carol Chinn

COMING UP
Meter Tech Roundtable
FMPA will host a Meter Tech Roundtable on Sept. 24 at FMPA’s Orlando office. This new roundtable provides a forum for meter technicians and meter maintenance staff to discuss topics such as operating procedures, equipment, safety, training and more. The roundtable is free, and lunch will be provided. Registration is requested by Sept. 18. Participation via teleconference will be available for those unable to attend in person. Communicators Roundtable
FMPA’s Public Relations Department and the Florida Municipal Electric Association will host a Communicators Roundtable on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at FMPA’s Orlando office. The roundtable provides a forum for utility communicators to discuss issues common to communications and marketing departments at public power utilities. The roundtable is free, and lunch will be provided. Registration is available on FMPA.com. Participants are encouraged to suggest discussion topics. Contact: Mark McCain
Public Power Week
The annual Public Power Week celebration is scheduled for Oct. 4 through Oct. 10. This annual event is a great time for local utilities to reach out to citizens in their communities to communicate the unique benefits of public power. The American Public Power Association created a Public Power Week Toolkit, which includes a variety of communication materials. In addition, APPA’s Pride in Public Power campaign website includes a section called Partner Resources that features tools created by APPA members. Visit APPA’s website for ideas to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Public Power Week.

Investor-Owned Utilities File 2016 Cost Recovery Projections with PSC
Florida investor-owned utilities filed projections of fuel costs and other expenses for 2016 with the Florida Public Service Commission. The Commission will use the projections to set 2016 cost recovery charges later this year. Cost recovery is allowed on fuel and purchased power, capacity, conservation and environmental requirements. Florida Power & Light residential customers using 1,000 kWh per month would pay $94.18 beginning in January, a decrease from $96.72. Tampa Electric residential customers would pay $106.22, a decrease from $108.47. Duke Energy residential customers would pay $117.41, a decrease from $121.59. Gulf Power residential customers would pay $135.58, a decrease from $139.29.
