 COVID-19 Update 

FMPA continues to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak and is committed to protecting everyone’s health and safety. FMPA’s office will remain open for essential operations, and employees are working on a rotating schedule to ensure adequate coverage. FMPA’s Power Resources Department is coordinating with plant staff to ensure power generators continue to operate during the pandemic. Everyone should stay tuned to the CDC and World Health Organization for the latest and most reliable information, and follow the recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security to defend against COVID-19 cyber scams.


FMPA Meetings and Events

FMPA cancelled its Trainings and Roundtables through the end of April and will reach out to members when the meetings are rescheduled. FMPA continues to update other events for teleconference options and for potential postponements. Members are encouraged to check FMPA’s event calendar for up-to-date information.

 

 

FMEA COVID-19 Resource Center

Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) created a COVID-19 Resource Center on its website to provide members with up-to-date information. The website contains state and national resources and news from Florida’s public power utilities. Members who would like to share information about their utility can contact Nicole Albers.

 FMPA Board of Directors and ARP Executive Committee

FMPA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee met jointly last Thursday via conference call and discussed nine information items. The full agenda packages are available on the Portal.

 

 

Mobile Substation Project

FMPA is working on a joint purchase project for a mobile substation to have as a backup in the event of an extended outage on a transformer. An informational webinar is scheduled for April 22 at 2 p.m. for interested members to discuss options and determine next steps. Board members and other interested parties will receive an invitation to the webinar this week. Contact: Cairo Vanegas

Behind the Switch Social Media Campaign

FMPA’s Public Relations Department has launched a social-media campaign during the month of March to give people a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to provide affordable and reliable solar energy. The campaign includes four short videos that are posted on FMPA’s Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages. The final video explaining “How utilities must be ready to provide power when the sun doesn’t shine,” will be posted this week. Contact: Melisa Inanc
