ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee held a rate workshop last Tuesday to review the July All-Requirements Project loads, costs and rates. Participant costs for July benefitted from energy sales that were 2.5% above budget and monthly gas costs that were 38% below budget. The July average billed demand and energy cost to participants was $57.04 per MWh, which was the lowest billed cost for the month of July and the ninth lowest overall monthly billed cost in over 15 years.  The full agenda package is available on the Portal.

Rotary Club of Orlando Presentation
Jacob Williams presented last Thursday at the Rotary Club of Orlando on how FMPA provides low-cost, reliable and clean power to its members as well as the benefits of the Florida Municipal Solar Project. A recording of the presentation is available on YouTube.


Power Plant Assistance
FMPA’s Power Resources Department worked with plant employees at Cane Island and Stock Island Generating Facilities to resolve two unplanned outages. Cane Island experienced a failure of a lightning arrestor on Unit 3 CT GSU. Stock Island replaced a starting motor on CT-1, and the CT-2 accessory gearbox was overhauled by Cane Island personnel. UAMPS Presentation
Jacob Williams presents at the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) conference on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. via Zoom. Jacob and Amy Zubaly from Florida Municipal Electric Association will speak on the topic of “Advocating for Public Power: Why and When.” A recording of the presentation will be available after the conference.


Reliability Support
Cairo Vanegas travels to the city of Leesburg on Tuesday to present the findings of a reliability analysis. One of FMPA’s management goals is to support members to enhance their system reliability. Interested members can contact Cairo for assistance.

Generation Fleet Workshop
FMPA and members of the All-Requirements Project’s generating fleet, including Fort Pierce, Key West and Kissimmee, meet for a workshop on Wednesday at 11 a.m. via Teams to discuss ways to maximize fleet performance. The team will meet on a regular basis to discuss topics, such as operational performance, pool coordination, fleet synergies and other generation issues. Contact: Ken Rutter

Finance Committee
FMPA’s Finance Committee meets on Wednesday at 2 p.m. via teleconference. As part of this month’s meeting, the Audit Department will present FMPA’s credit card audit report to the Committee. The report assesses the effectiveness of FMPA’s internal control on credit card usage for fiscal year 2019. The full agenda package is available on the Portal.

FMPA State of the Agency Dinner
FMPA hosts a State of the Agency Dinner on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in FMPA’s Orlando Office to celebrate the Agency’s accomplishments during fiscal 2020 and to share plans to continue providing value to its members. A recording of the event will be available on FMPA’s Facebook, LinkedIn and Vimeo on Wednesday evening.

Board of Directors
FMPA’s Board of Directors meets Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Board room. The Board will consider one action item. Monthly Technology Calls
The Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) teams meet Friday at 2 p.m. for the monthly member call. John A. Kunelius, vice president of Norwich University Applied Research Institute (NAURI) will join this month’s call to provide an overview of the “DECIDE” platform, which is used to improve resilience to cyber-attacks. Brandy Keehn from New Smyrna Beach also joins the call to provide insights on the benefits of “NAURI’s DECIDE” exercises. Monthly technology calls are available to members every third Friday of the month. Interested members can contact Konrad Lisiewicz.

APPA Public Power Communication Awards
Friday is the last day to submit applications for American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Excellence in Public Communications awards. Submissions are available in three categories: web and social media, video, and print and digital materials. Nominations are due by Aug. 21. Additional information can be found on APPA’s website.

Safety by Design
FMPA hosts a “Safety by Design” webinar series from Aug. 28 to Dec. 4. The series provides safety specific training and best practices. Each webinar session is one-hour long and designed to engage participants through polls, questions and online responses. The last day to register for “series one” is Friday. Compliance Workshop
FMPA will host its annual Compliance Workshop on Sept. 29 and 30. Interested members can choose to attend in person or via WebEx. The workshop will have guest presenters from the Southeastern Electric Reliability Corporation (SERC) and will include a Q&A session for members. Truong Le sent a survey poll to members last week to determine interest in attendance. The last day for members to respond to the poll is Aug. 25.
