OUC Announces Plan to End Coal-Fired Generation
Management at Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) released its recommendation last Wednesday to eliminate coal-fired generation at Stanton Energy Center no later than 2027. FMPA members have ownership interests in the two coal units at Stanton through FMPA’s Stanton, Tri-City, Stanton II and All-Requirements projects. The proposed plan calls for significantly reducing coal-fired generation no later than 2025 and eliminating it no later than 2027, using coal-to-natural gas conversion. One of FMPA’s fiscal 2021 management goals is to work with OUC to materially reduce power costs and emissions. OUC will hold a workshop Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. to get feedback from the public about the plan, and the final plan is subject to approval by OUC’s Board.
