FMSP Featured in DDC Journal
FMPA’s Florida Municipal Solar Project was featured in the Design, Develop and Construct (DDC) Journal last week. The article titled, “Here Comes the Sun” describes how 16 Florida cities came together to form one of the largest municipal-backed solar projects in the nation and the benefits of working together to bring affordable solar to customers. The full article is available on DDC Journal, page 156 – 157.

MSAC Training and Safety Subcommittee
The Training and Safety Subcommittee met last Wednesday and approved the Lineworker Safety Program and associated agreements. The next step in the process is to forward the agreements to the Member Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) for approval. FMPA will schedule a meeting with MSAC within the next month to consider the approval of the agreements and recommendations to FMPA’s Board of Directors. Contact: Mike McCleary

TVPPA Pre-Apprentice Assessment Workshop
FMPA’s new Lineworker Safety and Training Services provider, Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA) kicked off its first training at Kissimmee Utility Authority last week. The TVPPA Pre-Apprentice Assessment Workshop is a six-day class designed to help prepare an employee for the role of lineworker apprentice. The workshop includes classroom discussions, hands-on exercises and tests. FMPA will keep members informed for other classes that will be offered in 2021.  Contact: Mike McCleary

Energy Central Podcast
Jacob Williams meets with the Energy Central team on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a podcast episode on how FMPA provides low-cost, reliable and clean power to its members and their customers. FMPA will share the podcast recording when it’s published on Jan. 26.

ARP Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee meets Tuesday at 2 p.m. via conference call to review December’s ARP rate calculation.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
FMPA’s offices will be closed Jan. 18 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

DEED TripSavers Webinar
Cairo Vanegas presents on American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Deed Webinar on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. on the topic of, “Achieving Cost-Effective Reliability Improvements Using Single-Phase Reclosers.” The webinar will share the results of FMPA’s TripSavers project highlighting how single-phase reclosers helped reduce outages at three member cities. The project was part of a technology demonstration project coordinated by FMPA, with Havana, Key West and Tallahassee. Members can register for the webinar on APPA’s website.

TVPPA Foreman academy
Registration is open for the first track of Tennessee Valley Public Power Association’s (TVPPA) Foreman Academy Certification class taking place from Feb. 22 to Feb. 25 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The certification series are designed for lineworker personnel. The classes provide crew leaders and general foremen with the knowledge and tools to lead crews efficiently, responsibly, and safely.
