OUC Stanton Unit I Fire Extinguished
A fire broke out on Orlando Utilities Commission’s (OUC) Stanton Energy Center Unit I turbine deck Saturday night. Orange County Fire Department responded to the fire and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Stanton Unit I remains offline due to the fire and a return date has not been established. FMPA is in communication with the OUC Leadership team and power plant staff and will keep members updated. TECO Request for Proposals
TECO issued a Request for Proposals last month seeking 300 MW of peaking energy from March to November. FMPA, with the assistance of The Energy Authority (TEA) developed a set of proposals, which were submitted to TECO. If selected, this will contribute to FMPA’s efforts to optimize the All-Requirements Project capacity and energy position to help lower rates. Contact: Chris Gowder

MSAC Committee Meeting
The Member Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) met last Monday and approved an action item for the Lineworker Safety Program. The committee will present the agreements and recommendations to FMPA’s Board of Directors as an information item at the March Governing Board meetings.  Contact: Mike McCleary

Planned Outages
Cane Island Unit 1, which began its planned outage on Feb. 8 to install surge protection upgrades on the control system, returned to service last Tuesday. Stock Island CT1, which began its planned outage on Feb. 8 to install a new support on the bus from the generator to the step-up transformer was installed and completed last Friday but remains on outage for work on the inlet. ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee held a rate workshop on Feb. 11 to review the January All-Requirements Project loads, costs and rates. While energy sales to participants were 5.8% below budget, participant costs for January benefitted from monthly gas costs that were 24% below budget.  The January average billed demand and energy cost to participants was $61.53 per MWh, which was the lowest billed January demand and energy cost since 2005.  The full agenda package is available on the Portal. Strategic Planning Session
FMPA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee meet Wednesday at 9 a.m. at FMPA’s Orlando office for the biennial strategic planning session. The session will identify the top strategic priorities for FMPA in the coming two years. Members are encouraged to participate in person for an interactive experience. Social distancing guidelines will be followed. A teleconference option is also available for those who prefer to participate virtually.  A copy of the presentation is posted on the Portal. Finance Committee

Board of Directors

APPA SolarWinds Virtual Panel
Carter Manucy participates as a panelist on the America Public Power Association (APPA) SolarWinds Virtual Panel Thursday at 4 p.m. via teleconference. The panel will include subject matter experts from the public power and cybersecurity communities. The panelists will discuss the vulnerabilities caused by the recent SolarWinds supply chain compromise and importance of protecting against cyber threats.
