Keys Energy Services Mourns Passing of David Cottar
Keys Energy Services is mourning the passing of David Cottar, Generation Supervisor at the Stock Island Generating Facility. David was employed at KEYS for 29 years, spending most of his time in the Electrical Department and most recently in Power Generation. David was helpful with FMPA meeting its reliability goals and supported the work to ensure the generating units at Stock Island are available when needed. Funeral arrangements are pending. Our thoughts are with David’s family and the Keys Energy Services’ team.
Wynwood Energy Facility Tour
The tour of Florida Power and Light’s Wynwood Energy Facility originally scheduled for last Wednesday was postponed and will be rescheduled. The purpose of the tour is to provide members an opportunity to see an active battery storage facility and understand the size and scale, maintenance requirements and potential impacts. Members interested in joining the tour when rescheduled should contact Ken Rutter.
Fall Compliance Workshop
FMPA hosts its annual Compliance Workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday at FMPA’s Orlando office. The workshop will include presentations by the Southeastern Electric Reliability Corporation, FMPA staff and subject matter experts. There also will be a question and answer session for members. Welcome, Angel Diaz
Please welcome Angel Diaz, who joins FMPA on Wednesday as the new IT Support Specialist. In this role, Angel will support staff and members with IT related requests. He has nearly 13 years of IT experience, including time served in the U.S. Army and most recently at SeaWorld Orlando. Angel will report to Wayne Koback.
Safety Compliance Workshop
The next class in FMPA’s Safety Compliance for Electric Utilities Distance Learning Series is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. via teleconference. The session will highlight electric power system characteristics and conditions that are shared with contractors prior to working on utility facilities. Registration is available on FMPA’s website. APPA Legal and Regulatory Conference
The American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Legal and Regulatory Conference is scheduled for Oct. 17–20 in Savannah, Georgia. The conference is an opportunity for energy attorneys and regulatory personnel to discuss federal legislative and regulatory changes impacting public power. Preconference seminars are available on pole attachments and cybersecurity regulation and privacy laws. Registration is available on APPA’s website.
Substation Roundtable
Beaches Energy Services will host a Substation Roundtable on Dec. 2–3 in the Jacksonville Beach City Council Chamber. The roundtable is an opportunity for municipalities to discuss a variety of substation, relay and compliance topics. Members interested in attending the free event should contact Matt Campbell at Beaches or Alan O’Heron at FMPA.
