APPA Safety Award of Excellence
Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, JEA and Keys Energy Services received the Safety Award of Excellence from the American Public Power Association for safe operating practices in 2021. More than 318 utilities entered the annual safety awards, and 138 utilities were recognized last week during APPA’s Engineering & Operations Conference. Utilities who earn this award demonstrate their dedication to protecting the safety of their employees. A full list of winners is available on APPA’s website.

Central Florida NAF Academies of Finance Student Conference
Linda Howard participated in Orange County Public School’s annual Central Florida Academy of Finance Student Conference last Thursday. The conference, hosted by the Advisory Board, provided around 200 students in accounting or finance academies the opportunity to hear business professionals discuss career paths, the Orlando job market and business opportunities.

Alachua Power Purchase Agreement
FMPA began supplying Alachua with up to 15 MW of capacity and energy last Friday. The power is being served through Alachua’s substation interconnected with Duke Energy Florida, and the power purchase agreement will run through the end of 2027. Contact: Chris Gowder

FMPA Member Relations Survey
FMPA launched its 2022 Member Relations Survey on Monday. FMPA’s mission is to provide low-cost, reliable and clean power plus value-added services to its members, and the survey gives FMPA an opportunity to get valuable feedback to know how we are meeting members’ needs. FMPA encourages members, utility staff and people who interact and engage with the Agency to participate in the survey. A link to the survey was emailed by Jacob Williams to FMPAs’ Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Policy Makers Liaisons Committee and Member Services Advisory Committee. Moore Haven City Council Presentation
Jacob Williams attends Moore Haven’s City Council meeting on Tuesday and will present on recent energy price increases and the impacts on customers. Contact Susan Schumann if you are interested in a similar presentation for your local city council, city commission or utility board.

Under Frequency Load Shedding Training
Carl Turner, Shawn Szydlik and John Lee travel to Beaches Energy Services on Wednesday to provide Under Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) training. The training includes an overview of UFLS, a review of the current FRCC UFLS Program, the roles Beaches and other FMPA members play in the program, and more. Contact: Carl Turner
