Florida Public Power Leaders and Utility Recognized
Mona Clark, Mark McCain and the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) were recognized last Tuesday at the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) National Conference in Nashville. McCain is the former Vice President of Member Services and Public Relations at FMPA and received the James D. Donovan Individual Achievement Award for his substantial contributions to the public power industry. Clark is the Utility Board Chair for Keys Energy Services and received the Spence Vanderlinden Public Official Award, which recognizes local officials who have contributed to APPA’s goals. KUA received the Sue Kelly Community Service Award, which recognizes utilities for good neighbor activities that demonstrate commitment to the local community.

2022-2023 Board of Director Officer Nominations
FMPA’s Nominating Committee met on May 23 and plans to recommend to the Board of Directors the following slate of officers for 2022-2023: Barbara Quiñones, Homestead, as Chair, Lynne Tejeda, Key West, as Vice Chair, Larry Mattern, Kissimmee, as Secretary and Allen Putnam, Jacksonville Beach, as Treasurer. The vote will take place during the Board meeting on July 13. Nominations may also be accepted from the floor during the meeting. Contact: Jacob Williams

All-Requirements Project Costs
All-Requirements Project costs continue to climb. The average billed cost for May was $106.61 per megawatt hour, a 7% increase from April. The average cost of natural gas was 200% above budget, and fuel costs in June are expected to increase further. Energy sales to participants were 5% above budget, bringing the year-to-date total to 0.3% above budget. More information from the ARP Rate Workshop is available on the Portal. Contact: Jason Wolfe

Special-Called Executive Committee Meeting
The ARP Executive Committee met last Tuesday and approved a fixed-price natural gas strategy with Florida Gas Utility to manage future price risks. The agreement will run from Spring 2023 through Spring 2024 for 50% of the ARP’s natural gas needs at a price of no more than $6.50 per MMBTu. The amount of natural gas will decrease to 25% of the ARP’s needs from Spring 2024 through Spring 2025. Finance Committee
FMPA’s Finance Committee meets on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at FMPA’s Orlando office. The committee will consider an amendment to increase the fiscal 2022 All-Requirements Project budget to $225 million, due to rising fuel costs and the extended outage of Cane Island Unit 3. Board of Directors
FMPA’s Board of Directors meets Thursday at 9 a.m. to consider the approval of the fiscal 2023 budgets for the Stanton, Tri-City, Stanton II, St. Lucie, Solar, Solar II and Pooled Loan projects and the fiscal 2023 Agency allocations. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee meets Thursday at 9:15 a.m., or immediately following the Board of Directors meeting. The committee will consider four action items, including: 1) approval of the Fuel Portfolio Management Risk Policy, 2) approval of the fiscal 2023 Agency and All-Requirements Project budgets, 3) approval of an amendment to increase the fiscal 2022 All-Requirements Project budget, and 4) approval of a summer-only, pre-paid natural gas transaction with Florida Gas Utilities. Distribution Reliability Roundtable
The deadline to register for FMPA’s Distribution Reliability Roundtable is Wednesday. The roundtable is scheduled for June 29 at FMPA’s Orlando office at 10 a.m. and provides a forum for participants in the Distribution Reliability Program to discuss reliability-related topics and best practices. Utility Finance Roundtable
Registration is now open for the Utility Finance Roundtable scheduled for August 31 at 10 a.m. at FMPA’s Orlando office. The roundtable is co-hosted by FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) and provides participants a forum to discuss finance-related topics and exchange information including best practices, policies, procedures, legal considerations and more. Discussion topics can be emailed to Elizabeth Bendele at FMEA.
