Executive Committee

Natural Gas Risk Management Strategy
FMPA’s Executive Committee updated its natural gas price risk strategy for the next three months to provide more stability and better predictability in power costs for customers. Beginning in September, FMPA will purchase up to 10% of its expected volume of natural gas at $8 per MMBtu or lower. If the price of natural gas falls to $7.75 per MMBtu, FMPA will purchase an additional 10%. If natural gas prices decrease to $7.50 per MMBtu, FMPA will purchase an additional 15%. If natural gas prices fall to $7.25 per MMBtu, FMPA will purchase an additional 15% more for a total volume of 50%. The collective 50% pre-purchased natural gas volume would produce power costs of approximately $107 per megawatt hour based on current natural gas prices. The Executive Committee also upheld the previously approved natural gas volume matrixes for volumes above 50% and for December 2022 through March 2023. Contact: Jacob Williams
