Clewiston AMI Deployment
FMPA is supporting Clewiston with the deployment of an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) for the city’s electric and water systems. FMPA’s Public Relations (PR) department recently helped create a landing page for the city’s website and social media content to communicate the benefits of AMI to customers. The PR team will continue to provide communication support throughout meter deployment, which is planned to begin in 2023.

Accounting Support
Jim Arntz was in Havana last Tuesday and Wednesday to meet with City Manager Kendrah Wilkerson and help the city close out its books for fiscal 2020. Contact Linda Howard if your utility or city is interested in accounting support from FMPA.

Utility Finance Roundtable
FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) co-hosted the inaugural Utility Finance Roundtable last Wednesday. Participants from 13 member cities discussed a variety of topics and heard presentations from Baker Donelson and Baker Tilly US, LLP. Based on positive feedback from participants, FMPA and FMEA plan to hold the event biannually. Thank you to all who attended.

Fall Compliance Workshop
FMPA hosts its annual Compliance Workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday at FMPA’s Orlando office. The workshop will include presentations by the Southeastern Electric Reliability Corporation, FMPA staff and subject matter experts. There will also be a question-and-answer session. Bartow Rotary Presentation
Jacob Williams is attending the Bartow Rotary Club on Wednesday to present on the U.S. energy crisis and its impact on Floridians. The discussion will focus on Florida’s unique power needs and how FMPA is working with its members to keep electricity affordable. The FMPA team is available to provide similar presentations for all member cities. Contact Susan Schumann to schedule a presentation for your city or utility.

Stock Island Generating Facility
Tobin LaBorde and David Schumann will be at the Stock Island Generating Facility on Wednesday through Friday for the annual engineering inspection with a representative from FM Global. Each year, FMPA’s insurance provider reviews plant documents and conducts an independent analysis of the power plants to ensure industry practices are being followed.

Power Quality Investigation Workshop
FMPA hosts a Power Quality Investigation Workshop on Thursday at its Orlando office. The workshop will provide an overview of power quality issues encountered by utilities and strategies for analysis and mitigation. A teleconference option is available for those not able to attend in person. Contact: Cairo Vanegas

Power Pole Line Hardware Bid
FMPA is preparing a bid for the purchase and delivery of power pole line hardware. The bid will follow the FEMA-ready process, so members that plan to submit applications for FEMA reimbursement are encouraged to participate. Contact Sharon Samuels by Thursday if you’re interested.

Mobile Substation RFP
FMPA recently issued a request for proposals for a mobile substation for extended transformer outages. The awarded firm would own, maintain and deploy a mobile substation to the participating utility during these situations. Participants include Bartow, Beaches Energy Services, Homestead, Keys Energy Services, Lake Worth Beach, Leesburg, New Smyrna Beach and Winter Park. Contact: Cairo Vanegas
