Hurricane Ian
Hurricane Ian is making its way into the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to become a major hurricane by Tuesday before making landfall along Florida’s west coast later this week. As of 8 a.m. on Monday, the storm is a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. It is moving toward the northwest at 14 mph and is expected to turn toward the north-northeast on Tuesday night or early Wednesday. FMPA is monitoring the storm for potential impacts to FMPA’s member cities and power plants. Team members are available to assist with FEMA documentation, procurement of materials, customer communications and operations support. APPA Legislative Rally
The American Public Power Association (APPA) has scheduled its annual Legislative Rally for Feb. 27-March 1, 2023, at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. FMPA has budgeted funds to pay the travel expenses for 14 members to attend the Rally. Ryan Dumas sent an email on Monday to FMPA’s members with information about the Rally. FMPA will secure a sub-block of rooms at The Mayflower for Florida participants. If after final Rally details are announced you decide to not attend, we will cancel your reservation. Contact Ryan as soon as possible if you plan to attend.

Inflation Reduction Act Benefits Webinar
The American Public Power Association (APPA) hosts a free webinar on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to discuss energy tax provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act, including the extension and expansion of the current investment and production tax credits, new clean energy tax credits, enhancements to the credits for carbon capture and power, a new nuclear power credit, and various credits for customers. The direct pay mechanism in which public power utilities will be able to claim these credits for projects and facilities they own will also be discussed. The webinar is only open to APPA utility members. Registration information is available on APPA’s website.

Executive Committee
The ARP Executive Committee meets on Thursday at 9 a.m. via Microsoft Teams for a special-called meeting to discuss its natural gas price risk strategy. The full agenda package is available on Portal. Contact: Jacob Williams

Lineman’s Roundtable
FMPA hosts a Lineman’s Roundtable on Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at Orlando Utilities Commission’s Pershing Avenue building. The roundtable is open to all levels of line crew personnel and utility staff members interested in transmission and distribution topics. The roundtable provides a forum for line crews to exchange ideas on operating practices, safety, training tools, equipment and other common topics. The deadline to register is Oct. 13.
