December All-Requirements Project Rates
The average billed demand and energy cost for FMPA’s All-Requirements Project in December was $118.47 per megawatt hour, which was $19.35 more than in November. The higher costs were due to FMPA’s average natural gas costs, which averaged $9.04 per metric million British thermal unit and were 13% above budget. Utility Purchasing and Material Management Certificate
The first session of the four-part Utility Purchasing and Material Management Certificate program is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at FMPA’s Orlando office. The course is designed for public power purchasing personnel and focuses on contracts, quality metrics, work order systems, negotiations, business strategies and utility case studies.

Policy Makers Liaisons Committee
FMPA’s Policy Makers Liaisons Committee meets on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Board room. During the meeting, guest speaker Robert Bryce will present on renewables, hydrocarbons and the future of the electric grid. FMPA’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee and member utility staff are encouraged to participate. Lunch will be served at noon. Contact: Susan Schumann

Finance Committee
FMPA’s Finance Committee meets on Wednesday at 2 p.m. to consider three action items, including: 1) approval of a budget amendment for the Pooled Loan Project, 2) approval of the fiscal 2022 financial statements, and 3) approval of recommended changes to the Debt Risk Management Policy. Board of Directors
FMPA’s Board of Directors meets on Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Board room to consider two action items, including: 1) approval of a budget amendment for the Pooled Loan Project, and 2) approval of the fiscal 2022 financial statements. Executive Committee

Regional Crew Leader Roundtables
FMPA will host five crew leader roundtables over the next six weeks, beginning on Jan. 24 in Quincy and on Jan. 25 in Williston. The deadlines to register for the roundtables in Quincy and Williston are on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Other roundtables will be held in Bartow, Homestead and Mount Dora. The crew leader roundtables allow foremen and crew leaders to discuss common issues and best practices. Registration is available on FMPA’s website.

Substation Safety Awareness Training
Friday is the deadline to register for the Substation Safety Awareness Training scheduled for Feb. 7-8 at Orlando Utilities Commission. The training is part of a substation maintenance series that is designed to provide in-depth instruction on substation-related topics and tailored to the specific equipment of the attendee’s utilities, where possible. POWERGEN International
Ken Rutter and Cane Island Power Park assistant plant manager Bill Mangan will present at the POWERGEN International Conference on Feb. 22 in Orlando. The presentation will explore the management of the power plant and upgrades performed on Unit 3. FMPA’s members are invited to participate in an exclusive microgrid roundtable during the conference. Foreman Academy Certification Series
Registration is now open for the first track of the three-part Foreman Academy Certification series, scheduled for March 20-23 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The Foreman Academy Certification provides crew leaders and general foremen with the knowledge and tools to lead crews efficiently, responsibly and safely. The deadline to register is March 10. National Electrical Safety Code Training
Lakeland Electric will host trainings on the 2023 National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) on March 13-15 and March 15-17. The NESC is the national standard for safety in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electric utility supply and communication systems. Registered participants are required to bring either a printed or digital copy of the 2023 NESC to the session. Additional details and a link to register are available on FMPA’s website.
