Executive Committee
FMPA’s Executive Committee met last Wednesday for a special-called meeting and approved two action items, including: 1) the purchase of up to 25% of the ARP’s natural gas needs for April 2024 through March 2025 at a price of $3 per MMBtu or less, and 2) the purchase of an additional 10,000 MMBtu per day at a minimum discount of 45 cents per MMBtu. Substation Maintenance Training
FMPA hosts a substation safety awareness training on Tuesday and Wednesday at Orlando Utilities Commission’s Pershing Avenue facility. The training is part of a substation maintenance series that provides in-depth instruction on substation-related topics and is tailored to the specific equipment of the attendee’s utilities, where possible.
FMPA Weekly Anniversary
Thursday marks the 24th anniversary of FMPA Weekly. More than 1,000 weekly newsletters have been emailed to staff, members and other interested parties since Feb. 9, 1999, to communicate news and information about FMPA and its members. POWERGEN International
Ken Rutter and Cane Island Power Park assistant plant manager Bill Mangan will present at the POWERGEN International Conference on Feb. 22 in Orlando. The presentation will highlight the management of the power plant and upgrades performed on Unit 3. FMPA’s members are invited to participate in an exclusive microgrid roundtable during the conference. Participants will receive free conference registration. Contact Kenzie Jones to register.
National Electrical Safety Code Training
Lakeland Electric will host trainings on the 2023 National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) on March 13-15 and March 15-17. The NESC is the national standard for safety in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electric utility supply and communication systems. Registered participants are required to bring either a printed or digital copy of the 2023 NESC to the session. Additional details and a link to register are available on FMPA’s website.
Physical Security Workshop
FMPA will host a Hometown Security Workshop on March 30 at its Orlando office. Representatives from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and more will present on physical security best practices and awareness using recent substation attacks as a backdrop for discussion. The workshop will provide participants opportunities to learn, share experiences and discuss considerations for their own service territories. Members will receive an email invitation with an agenda.
