FMPA State of the Agency
Jacob Williams presented on the state of the Agency last Thursday during the annual Board of Directors Luncheon at the FMEA Annual Conference. He highlighted how the efforts of FMPA and municipal utilities help keep energy expenses low for families and businesses despite rising costs. Board of Directors
The Board of Directors met last Wednesday and elected new officers and approved a resolution recognizing Larry Mattern. The Board also heard information about the annual continuing disclosure report of the 2022 fiscal year and FMPA’s comments about EPA’s proposal for emissions from power generators. Executive Committee

Larry Mattern Steps Down
Vice President of Operations for Kissimmee Utilities Authority (KUA) Larry Mattern stepped down from his roles with FMPA’s Board of Directors after 16 years of service. KUA appointed Larry as an alternate to the Board in 2007, and he became Director in 2014. The Board elected him Secretary in 2018, and he served five terms. Larry also served on the Executive Committee since 2011. FMPA thanks Larry for his service and commitment to public power, joint action and community involvement.

Board of Directors and Executive Committee Officers
FMPA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee met last week to elect officers for 2023-2024. The Board re-elected Barbara Quiñones of Homestead as chair, Lynne Tejeda of Keys Energy Services as vice chair, Robert Page of Green Cove Springs as secretary and Allen Putnam of Beaches Energy Services as treasurer. The Executive Committee re-elected Howard McKinnon of Havana as chair and Lynne Tejeda as vice chair. The Board secretary and treasurer will also serve on the Executive Committee in their respective roles. Contact: Jacob Williams

Policy Makers Liaisons Committee
FMPA’s Policy Makers Liaisons Committee (PMLC) met last Thursday to elect their 2023-2024 officers and approve their meeting schedule for the year. The committee re-elected Robert Page of Green Cove Springs as chair and James Hilty, Sr., of Ocala as vice chair. The committee also discussed the EPA’s most recent emissions proposal. Record Electric Peak
The All-Requirements Project (ARP) set back-to-back all-time peaks last week for the 13 project participants. Integrated hourly peaks reached 1,325 megawatts (MW) on July 20 and 1,340 MW on July 21. The previous record peak was 1,307 MW, set on June 16, 2022. Similarly, on July 20, the Florida Municipal Power Pool (FMPP) achieved a record instantaneous summer peak of 3,764 MW for the entire Balancing Authority Area (BA). The previous BA instantaneous summer peak was 3,732 MW on July 13, 2022.

Linda Howard Retires
FMPA Chief Financial Officer Linda Howard retires today. Linda retired from Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) after 25 years of service, then joined FMPA as treasurer in 2017 and became CFO in August 2018. Orlando Business Journal recently recognized her as one of Central Florida’s 2023 Women Who Mean Business. We’re grateful for Linda’s service, and we wish her the best.

Electrical Metering – Lab A, previously scheduled for Aug. 7-11, has been canceled due to low registration. Contact: Sharon Samuels

Electrical Metering – Lab B
Registration is open for Electric Metering – Lab B, hosted by OUC. The hands-on training is Aug. 28-Sept. 1, and participants may attend independently or as part of the TVPPA Electrical Metering Certification Program. Contact: Sharon Samuels

Substation Training
Registration is now open for the Substation Safety Awareness Training scheduled for Sept. 12-13 at OUC. The training is part of a substation maintenance series that is designed to provide in-depth instruction on substation-related topics, and this session focuses on switching and tagging, personal protective grounding and battery systems.
