FMPP All-Time Peak
The Florida Municipal Power Pool (FMPP) set an all-time pool peak last Monday with 3,962 megawatts (MW) at 16:20. The previous all-time pool peak was 3,842 MW on Jan. 11, 2010 at 07:13, and the previous summer pool peak was 3,764 MW on July 20, 2023 at 16:46.

FRCC All-Time Peak
The Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) set an all-time record peak on Tuesday, Aug. 8. The instantaneous peak load was 54,187.8  MW at 16:26, the integrated hourly load was 54,017 megawatt hours (MWHs) for HE17 and there were no significant reliability issues for the FRCC Bulk Electric System. The previous all-time peak was 52,368 MW on Jan. 11, 2010.  Last Tuesday, the FRCC also served 1,012,642 MWhs, which equals 1.103 terawatt hours (TWH).

AMI Roundtable
FMPA hosted a roundtable about advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). Twenty six members from 13 cities attended to learn about AMI technology, training and equipment.

St. Lucie Unit No. 2 Anniversary
St. Lucie Unit No. 2 celebrates 40 years of commercial operation today. The nuclear-generating unit, which is part of a Reliability Exchange Agreement between FMPA and Florida Power and Light (FPL), generates approximately 984 MW. The capacity factor for the unit was 89.7%, and it has averaged an 83.7% capacity factor since beginning operations Aug. 14, 1983.

Florida’s Women in Energy Leadership Forum 2023
Multiple FMPA representatives are attending the Florida Women in Energy Leadership Forum (FWELF) 2023 this week in Fort Lauderdale. Jacob Williams will speak Monday at 4 p.m., and Daniela Delpino will be on a panel Wednesday at 9 a.m.

ElectriCities 2023 Annual Conference
Jody Finklea is attending the ElectriCities 2023 Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this week. He, along with Tim Blodgett from Missouri River Energy, will speak Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. about the value of public power utilities for communities.

Fort Pierce Visits
Jacob Williams visits Fort Pierce this week. Today, he’ll speak to the Fort Pierce City Commission about the EPA’s proposed greenhouse gas (GHG) rule, and Wednesday he’ll attend a Fort Pierce Utility Authority (FPUA) strategic planning session. To organize similar visits, contact Susan Schumann.

SERC Grid Reliability Update
SERC Reliability Cooperation is hosting a free webinar to discuss enhancing the physical security of the electric grid. The hour-long WebEx session will be Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. EST, and it will be recorded and shared to the SERC website after. Registration is free. Contact: LaKenya VanNorman

General Fund Transfer Survey
Sue Utley recently distributed FMPA’s annual General Fund Transfer Survey. We use this survey to assess Agency members’ utility fund transfers and demonstrate the value that municipal electric utilities and these transfers provide. Please complete by Aug. 25. Contact: Mary Kathryn Patterson

Cybersecurity Training
The Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), Seminole County and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) will host Voting Power – Regional Tabletop Exercise on Aug. 30 at Valencia College School of Public Safety – Auditorium.
