GIS Roundtable
FMPA hosted a geographic information system (GIS) roundtable last Thursday. Thirteen representatives from eight member utilities attended the informal forum to discuss GIS best practices and exchange information. Contact: Lindsay Jack

FPL Kickoff Call
FMPA has a kickoff call with Florida Power & Light (FPL) tomorrow. The purpose of the call is for FPL to explain its plans for the upcoming transmission rate filing at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Kiwanis of Wauchula Meeting
Jacob Williams is attending the Kiwanis of Wauchula meeting tomorrow. He’s discussing EPA’s proposed greenhouse gas ruling and how it would affect Florida.
Cybersecurity Training
The Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), Seminole County and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council (ECFRPC) will host Voting Power – Regional Tabletop Exercise on Wednesday at Valencia College School of Public Safety – Auditorium. The cybersecurity training will also address topics related to the electric grid. Contact: Wayne Koback
General Fund Transfer Survey
We extended the deadline to complete the annual General Fund Transfer Survey until Friday. The survey results allow us to assess Agency members’ utility fund transfers and to demonstrate the value that municipal electric utilities and these transfers provide. Contact: Mary Kathryn Patterson
Labor Day
FMPA’s offices will be closed Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day, and FMPA Weekly will resume its publication the following day. Have a safe and happy holiday.
Audit Updates
FMPA’s internal auditors are finalizing the accounts payable and credit audits. They also issued the St. Lucie audit, which will be reviewed during the next finance committee meeting. Contact: Liyuan Woerner

Hurricane Season Forecast Update
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently issued its updated 2023 Atlantic hurricane season outlook. NOAA predicts a 70% chance of 14-21 named storms, which includes an estimated potential of six to 11 becoming hurricanes. Of those hurricanes, NOAA anticipates the potential for two to five major hurricanes.
Benefits of Joint Purchase Project
FMPA members can collectively participate in bids for commodities and services through the Joint Purchase Project (JPP), which provides cost-savings benefits through collaborative bidding, reduced administrative time and price-fluctuation mechanisms. As we approach the heart of hurricane season, remember that the FMPA list of agreements is available for use during storm restoration, and JPP participation is free. Contact: Sharon Samuels
