Stock Island Black Start Test
FMPA’s generation engineering team supported the implementation and test of a black start test at Stock Island at the end of August. Stock Island completed the test successfully, which will increase reliability and reduce the response time in the event of a black start in the Keys. Contact: David Schumann/Tobin LaBorde

Hurricane Idalia
Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach at 7:45 a.m. last Tuesday as a strong Category 3 storm, including maximum sustained winds reaching 125 mph. The storm left approximately 250,000 Florida residents without power. FMPA’s units were not affected and stayed online, and several member cities participated in mutual aid efforts to restore power in affected areas, helping 99.99% of public power customers to have electricity again within 48 hours of the storm.

Special-Called Meeting
There will be an FMPA special-called board of directors meeting tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input for the general manager and CEO and general counsel and CLO performance reviews and discuss one information item. Participants can join the meeting via Teams or by calling (321) 299-0575 and entering 983 780 071#.

General Fund Transfer Survey
In light of potential delays and changes in priorities due to Hurricane Idalia, we extended the deadline to complete the annual General Fund Transfer Survey. The survey will remain open for submissions until Friday. Its results allow us to assess Agency members’ utility fund transfers and to demonstrate the value that municipal electric utilities and these transfers provide. Contact: Mary Kathryn Patterson

Procurement Audit
FMPA staff recently began the procurement audit. Contact: Liyuan Woerner

Benefits of Joint Purchase Project
FMPA members can collectively participate in bids for commodities and services through the Joint Purchase Project (JPP), which provides cost-savings benefits through collaborative bidding, reduced administrative time and price-fluctuation mechanisms. As we approach the heart of hurricane season, remember that the FMPA list of agreements is available for use during storm restoration, and JPP participation is free. Contact: Sharon Samuels
