Nicholas Guarriello
FMPA is saddened to share the news of former General Manager and CEO Nicholas P. Guarriello’s passing last Friday morning. Guarriello served FMPA from 2008 to 2015, and notable achievements during his tenure included lowering power costs, increasing member satisfaction, ensuring stable credit ratings and completing the modernization of the Agency’s generation fleet. His family will share arrangement information in the new year. FMPA sends its condolences to his loved ones.

Starke Power Plant Tour
FMPA hosted a tour of two of its facilities for representatives from Starke last Wednesday. City Manager Drew Mullins, Mayor Scott Roberts and Kim Roberts toured Sand Lake Energy Center and Cane Island Power Park. If your utility or community is interested in scheduling similar tours of FMPA’s power generation facilities, contact Susan Schumann.

Finance Committee Meeting
The Finance Committee met last Wednesday. The committee approved action items to add additional meeting dates in 2024 and to recommend extending the Agency’s contract with Purvis Gray & Company. It also heard information items related to reviewing the annual debt report, selecting a vice chair for the committee and discussing the preliminary financial results for FY23. Board of Directors Meeting
The Board of Directors met last Thursday. The Board approved action items to extend the Agency’s agreement with Purvis Gray & Company and to approve the investment policy, and it heard information items related to Solar Phase II and updates from compliance, human resources and member services. The Board also approved a resolution to recognize Claston Sunanon from OUC in appreciation of his service on the FMPA Board of Directors. Full agenda package is available here. ARP Executive Committee Meeting
The ARP Executive Committee met last Thursday. The committee discussed action items to approve the FGT “East Leg” capacity contract renewals and heard information items about renewing and expanding gas storage. Full agenda package is available here. Contact: Jacob Williams

November All-Requirements Project Rates
The average billed demand and energy cost for FMPA’s All-Requirements Project in September was $75.76 per megawatt hour, which was 8% above the budgeted cost. While Participant energy sales were at budget, total external sales were 29% above budget.  The forward curve was down 22% from prior month primarily due to a mild weather outlook for winter and strong storage levels.  The agenda package from the ARP Rate Workshop is available on the Portal. APPA Project Abstract Solicitation
APPA is soliciting project abstracts on behalf of its members through a new potential Department of Energy (DOE) funding opportunity (DE-FOA-0002986). While funding for this potential opportunity is likely to not be available until early 2025. The first application is due to DOE by Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. Please submit abstract(s) to APPA by COB Wednesday, Dec. 20. Please be sure to fill in your contact information in the abstract so APPA may contact you to determine additional information about your submission(s). FMPA Holiday Schedule
FMPA’s offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day and Jan. 1 and 2 in observance of New Year’s Eve and Day. FMPA’s offices will also close Friday, Dec. 29, but staff will be available remotely. We wish everyone a safe, happy holiday season.

FMPA Events Calendar
FMPA recently updated its events calendar to include all 2024 governing board meetings and a range of training and roundtable opportunities. We will continue to add new events as they arise.

Environmental Training
Registration is now open for FMPA’s environmental training on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. The training, which is free for members to attend, will discuss various aspects of oil spills. Participants can also submit discussion topic ideas or questions. Contact: Lindsay Jack

FMPA Holiday Donations

FMPA participated in two giving opportunities for the holiday season. The Agency, through staff contributions throughout the year, donated $2,000 to the Russell Home for Atypical Children. Team members also donated more than $3,000 worth of toys to Children’s Home Society of Florida. FMPA is honored to support its local communities and grateful for all team members who participated.
