2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season
The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins Saturday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts an above-normal season with 17 to 25 named storms, with eight to 13 of the storms potentially becoming hurricanes with wind speeds of 74 mph or higher. NOAA forecasts four to seven of these becoming major hurricanes – category 3, 4, or 5 – with winds of 111 mph or higher. FMPA’s staff have reviewed storm plans and roles. If your community is impacted by a hurricane, members are reminded to contact the Florida Municipal Electric Association for mutual aid assistance. Members can contact FMPA for assistance with FEMA documentation, procurement of materials, customer communications, and operations support. Hurricane Assistance Contact: Mike McCleary

EPA Comments
FMPA filed comments on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s existing stationary combustion turbine electric generating units (EGUs) framing questions. The comments were in response to the EPA soliciting input regarding the Agency’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing fossil fuel-fired stationary combustion turbines. SERC will host a webinar titled Inverter-Based Resources (IBR) Webinar: State & Provincial Integration of Reliable Renewable Energy tomorrow from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. SERC invites state regulators and policymakers to a webinar where experts from the ERO Enterprise will shed light on proposed amendments to NERC’s Rules of Procedures governing the registration criteria for inverter-based resources (IBRs) that would result in materially impactful IBRs becoming subject to applicable NERC Reliability Standards. This webinar highlights its importance through grid resilience, policy implications, timelines and implementation, asset impact, and Bulk Power System integration. The targeted audience for this webinar includes state lawmakers, commissioners and staff, policy makers engaged in state energy regulation, utility regulatory and government affairs personnel, and stakeholders associated with the planning, modeling, or operations of the Bulk Electric Grid.
