Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene made landfall around 11 p.m. Thursday evening along Florida’s Big Bend. The powerful storm arrived as a Category 4 hurricane, reaching a maximum of 140 mph sustained winds during landfall. FMEA activated the mutual aid network prior to the storm, allowing crews from 10 states to begin working as soon as possible to thousands of Floridians. FMEA has since reported that more than 99 percent of Florida public power customers had power restored within 48 hours of Helene making landfall.

Top Workplace 2024
Orlando Sentinel recognized FMPA as a Top Workplace in Central Florida for 2024. The Sentinel determines recipients based on anonymous employee feedback regarding company culture and engagement. This is the fifth consecutive year FMPA earned this distinction.

Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Power Sale
The All-Requirements Power Supply Project (ARP) will begin selling additional power to Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), formerly Reedy Creek Improvement District, under a new capacity and energy Power Purchase Agreement that begins October 1 and runs through 2029. The agreement helps the district provide affordable and reliable power to its customers and allows the ARP to optimize its excess capacity, which is beneficial to FMPA Members and their customers. Lineworker Safety Program Steering Committee
The Lineworker Safety Program Steering Committee will meet at FMPA tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Caleb Hall and Shawn Blongren from TVPPA will attend to discuss current events and the Lineworker Safety Program. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. Contact: Lindsay Jack

Interpersonal Supervisory Skills II Training
Registration closes Thursday for the Interpersonal Supervisory Skills II training scheduled for October 7 and 8 at FMPA. The seminar includes three training modules and is part of the requirements to each the TVPPA Certified Power Supervisor credential. Contact: Lindsay Jack

FMPA Cybersecurity Event
FMPA’s IT department is planning a cybersecurity event on October 28 from 11:30 to 2 p.m. for FMPA staff members. Agent Crenshaw from the FBI Cyber Team will speak. The event can be broadcast live for other interested Member cities. Members who would like to participate in watching the event can email Wayne Koback.
