Atlantic Hurricane Season
The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season began yesterday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting another above-average year, predicting 13 to 19 named storms between now and November 30. Of these storms, NOAA expects six to 10 of these storms to become hurricanes, meaning they have winds of 74 mph or higher, and expects three to five to become meaning major hurricanes, meaning they have winds of 111 mph or higher. The NOAA advises the season is likely to be affected by warmer temperatures – especially warmer water temperatures – and effects of storms may have a greater inland impact, particularly from flooding. Now is the time to prepare, and there are a variety of resources available, such as those from the Florida Department of Health, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, and FMEA.
