Florida PSC Appointments
Governor Ron Desantis appointed Ana Ortega and Bobby Payne to the Florida Public Service Commission last week. Both appointments – which are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate – would be effective January 2, 2026. Learn more about the appointed commissioners here.
TAPS Fall Conference
Dan O’Hagan attended the TAPS Fall Conference and Board of Directors meeting in Vermont last week. He is a member of the TAPS Board of Directors, Regulatory Committee, and Legislative Committee. The meetings focused on transmission and other electric industry matters affecting public power utilities and included presentations from FERC Commissioner Judy Chang, NERC CEO Jim Robb, APPA President Scott Corwin, and more.
Public Power Week
Public Power Week began yesterday. The annual celebration is an opportunity for municipal utilities to engage with customers and stakeholders to help them learn more about their utility and how it serves them. Visit FMPA’s social media channels each day this week for an FMPA 101 series in honor of Public Power Week. APPA has free resources available to use throughout the week, and reach out to Mary Kathryn Patterson or Emily Maag if you need assistance with communications this week.
National Energy Awareness Month
October is National Energy Awareness Month, encouraging people to recognize the importance of energy in our daily lives, the job opportunities available in the sector, and the economic impacts of the industry. Since its establishment in 1991, the month has provided the opportunity to discuss consumption, conservation, production, and efficiency. October PMLC Meeting
FMPA is proud to host former FERC Chairman Mark C. Christie via teleconference at the upcoming Policy Makers Liaisons Committee meeting on October 22. Aside from his service as a FERC commissioner and chair, he previously served as chairman of the Virginia State Corporation Commission and president of the Organization of PJM States, Inc.
