KUA TARP and O&M Agreements Audit

Denise Fuentes, Yaritza Velez and Liyuan Woeer began an audit of the Kissimmee Utility Authority TARP and O&M agreements for fiscal 2009 and fiscal 2010. They plan to finish the audit the week of May 9. Contact: Rich Popp

 


Key West Transmission Line Improvements

Jim Hay participated in a pre-bid meeting last Wednesday at Keys Energy Services for a Dynamic VAR Compensation System. This system will help improve transmission efficiency of the 120-mile transmission line that spans the length of the Keys. It will be jointly owned by FMPA, Keys Energy Services and Florida Keys Electric Cooperative. Bids are due May 27, and the project will take approximately one year to complete. CREAC Telephonic Meeting
FMPA’s Conservation and Renewable Energy Advisory Committee (CREAC) met last Thursday and approved renewing the All-Requirements Project’s Conservation Program for fiscal 2012. The Committee decided and will recommend to the Executive Committee to fund the program at $750,000, the same amount as fiscal 2011. Contact: Michele Jackson

ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee meets Monday via conference call at 2 p.m. for the monthly All-Requirements Project rate workshop. The workshop agenda includes: 1) an update on natural gas markets and liquidity, 2) an overview of April loads, costs and rate calculations, and 3) estimated rates for May through July. Executive Committee OATT Workshop

The ARP Executive Committee will hold a workshop Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Board room to discuss the open access transmission tariff, member agreements, and cost and revenue streams. The full agenda package is available on the Member Portal. Contact: Frank Gaffney

 


Business Planning and Budget Committee
FMPA’s Business Planning and Budget Committee meets Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. via teleconference for a second review of the Agency’s proposed fiscal 2012 budget. The meeting was originally scheduled in FMPA’s Board room. Contact: Mark Larson

 


Cost Center Teams

FMPA’s Cost Center Teams meet this week via teleconference to review the All-Requirements Project proposed fiscal 2012 budget. Teams are assigned to review one of nine major budget areas, such as transmission, capacity, debt and capital leases, fuels, and direct charges. Each team is comprised of FMPA staff, Business Planning and Budget Committee members and All-Requirements Project (ARP) participants. ARP members are encouraged to join a Cost Center Team to lea more about the project’s budget and provide input on how All-Requirements can become the lowest cost wholesale electricity provider in Florida. Cane Island Unit 4 Testing Resumes

Cane Island Unit 4 resumes testing this week as contractors prepare to bring the unit online this summer. The unit will be running in combined-cycle mode, meaning both the combustion turbine and steam turbine will be operating. Contact: David Schumann

Protective Relay Seminar
FMPA and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories will hold a one-day protective relay seminar May 19 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The seminar is a great opportunity for relay protection personnel to discuss protection systems and future projects. Response to this seminar has been high and only a limited number of spots remain. Energy Auditors Roundtable

FMPA’s semi-annual Energy Auditors Roundtable will be held May 19 at 10 a.m. in Lake Worth. The roundtable provides a forum to discuss work procedures and policies, industry changes, equipment and other topics of interest. Several spots remain for people interested in participating. Board of Directors

A special meeting of FMPA’s Board of Directors has been called for May 26 at 9 a.m. in the Board room to approve financing plans for the purchase of St. Lucie and Stanton II project auction-rate securities tendered by Citi. Contact: Nick Guarriello
