Audit and Risk Oversight Committee

Board of Directors
FMPA’s Board of Directors met last Thursday and approved: 1) a fiscal 2014 budget amendment for the Tri-City Project, 2) a fiscal 2014 budget amendment for the Stanton Project, 3) renewal of an engagement letter for swap consultant Swap Financial, and 4) adoption of a Board of Directors Public Comments Policy. ARP Executive Committee
The ARP Executive Committee met last Thursday and approved the renewal of an engagement letter for swap consultant Swap Financial. The Committee also heard information items, including: 1) a strategic plan update, 2) a quarterly regulatory compliance update, 3) 2013 Management Letter comment status, 4) EPA’s proposed carbon emissions guidelines for existing power generating units, 5) All-Requirements Project Series 2008C Letter of Credit extension, and 6) hedge portfolio position update. APPA Moved
The American Public Power Association (APPA) moved last week to new offices in the Washington, D.C., metro area. APPA’s new address is 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 1000 Arlington, VA 22202. Lineworker Appreciation Day
Florida’s electric lineworkers are being honored Tuesday as utilities across the state celebrate the third annual Lineworker Appreciation Day. The Florida House of Representatives in 2012 passed a resolution designating Aug. 26 as Lineworker Appreciation Day to honor the thousands of men and women who risk their lives ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity throughout the state. The date was chosen in honor of Marc Moore, a lineman for Lakeland Electric who died in an electrical accident on Aug. 26, 2002.
Member City Visit
Bud Boudreaux travels to Kissimmee on Tuesday for a member city visit with Kissimmee Utility Authority General Manager Jim Welsh and KUA Board Secretary Dr. George Gant.

Lineman’s Roundtable
FMPA’s semi-annual Lineman’s Roundtable is scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Hardee County Health Department in Wauchula. The roundtable provides a forum for line crews to exchange ideas on operating practices, safety, training, tools and equipment. IT Community Roundtable
FMPA will host an Information Technology (IT) Community Roundtable on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. in the first-floor conference room. The roundtable provides an opportunity for IT staff to meet with their peers to exchange ideas and experiences on current issues, such as email usage, computer security, product help, best practices and more. FPL Expects to Decrease Rates in 2015
Florida Power & Light said last Friday that it expects to reduce electric rates in 2015 due largely to savings on fuel costs. Based on projections filed with the Public Service Commission (PSC), the electric bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month will decrease nearly $2 a month from $101.51 to $99.65 beginning in January. Typical business customer bills are expected to decrease roughly 1%, depending on rate class and type of service. The plan is subject to approval by the PSC.
Heat Triggers Record Demand for Electricity in Florida
Several electric utilities in Florida and the state as a whole set all-time record peak demands for electricity last week as temperatures climbed into the upper 90s for several days without much rain. Florida Power & Light, Kissimmee Utility Authority and Orlando Utilities Commission all announced new peaks. The high temperatures also increased power loads in other parts of Florida. The Florida Reliability Coordinating Council said last Thursday that its region set a new summer peak with more than 45,000 MW of load.
