Power Sale to Reedy Creek

FMPA’s All-Requirements Project’s (ARP) overnight sale of energy to Reedy Creek Improvement District that began in January has been extended through February. This arrangement allows for more optimal utilization of ARP’s generation that is online overnight. Contact: Chris Gowder

 

Annual Engineering Inspections

FMPA’s Power Generation team visited the Cane Island Power Park and Treasure Coast Energy Center for annual inspections with representatives from FM Global, FMPA’s insurance provider. These inspections ensure FMPA’s power plants are being maintained and operating using best practices and prudent engineering standards. Representatives from FM Global are scheduled to visit the Stock Island Generating Facility in April. Contact: David Schumann

FMEA Legislative Rally

Jacob Williams and Jody Finklea will attend the FMEA Legislative Rally in Tallahassee on Monday and Tuesday. The rally is an opportunity for Florida’s municipal electric utilities to communicate with state legislators.

 

Reliability Improvement Project

Cairo Vanegas travels to Alachua on Tuesday to discuss a reliability improvement project. One of FMPA’s Management Goals is to help members enhance the reliability of their systems.

 

ARP Telephonic Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee meets Tuesday at 2 p.m. via conference call to review January’s ARP rate calculation. Contact: Jason Wolfe

 

FMPP Seminar

The Florida Municipal Power Pool (FMPP) will host its annual seminar on Tuesday at OUC’s Windermere Pines. The seminar will cover a wide variety of topics, including generation, renewables, reliability, security, fuels, NERC standards and more. Attendees will include representatives from FMPA, Lakeland, KUA and Orlando Utilities Commission. Contact: Chris Gowder

 

Substation Training

FMPA’s Substation Inspection & Testing class is Tuesday through Wednesday at Orlando Utilities Commission’s Engineering Building in Orlando. Contact: Sharon Samuels

 

Generation Fleet Workshop
FMPA and members of the All-Requirements Project’s generation fleet, including Fort Pierce, Key West and Kissimmee, participate in a workshop on Wednesday to discuss ways to maximize fleet performance. The team meets on a regular basis to discuss topics such as operational performance, pool coordination, fleet synergies and other generation issues. Contact: Ken Rutter

Monthly Technology Calls
FMPA’s Information Technology and Operations Technology teams meet Friday to discuss current industry issues and provide cybersecurity support for members. Members interested in attending can contact Luis Cruz.

 

APPA Legislative Rally Webinar
FMPA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association will host a webinar Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. for members attending the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Annual Legislative Rally on Feb. 24-26 in Washington, D.C. Attendees can contact Ryan Dumas for registration details.

 

Cybersecurity Events
FMPA encourages members to participate in cybersecurity events in March. SANS Institute will host an ICS (Industrial Control Systems) Security Summit on March 2 to March 3 in Orlando. The summit provides a forum for utility staff to gain knowledge on how to protect against cyber risks. The cost to attend is $1,500, and FMPA members can get 50% off the registration price. On March 4, FRCC CIPS will host its annual cybersecurity workshop in conjunction with the SANS ICS Security Summit. There is no cost to attend the workshop. On March 6, FMPA will host an Operational Technology Threat Workshop at its Orlando office. Members can contact Carter Manucy for more information on the events.
