NAF Academy of Finance Panel
FMPA’s CFO Linda Howard was featured on a National Academy Foundation (NAF) Finance Industry Career Panel last Thursday. The panelists discussed different careers in the finance industry. The panel was a part of the NAF Virtual Finance Conference for students at Central Florida NAF Academy of Finance.
Board Appointments
Ocala Electric Utility appointed Bill Kaufman to serve as the city’s representative to FMPA’s Board of Directors. Randy Hahn is the alternate to FMPA’s Board of Directors. Randy will also serve as the city’s representative to FMPA’s Executive Committee and Bill is the alternate to the Executive Committee.
Behind the Switch Social Media Campaign
FMPA’s Public Relations Department launches its annual social-media campaign on Wednesday called “Behind the Switch” to give people a behind-the-scenes look on how Florida cities provide low-cost, reliable, and clean power. This year’s campaign includes a series of short videos that show customers the people “Behind the Switch” at Florida’s public power utilities and the work they do to provide affordable, reliable and clean electricity to customers. In four videos, viewers will meet customer service representatives, local elected officials, power plant workers, lineworkers, arborists, and staff from FMPA and its member cities. The videos will be posted on FMPA’s Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages throughout April. Contact: Melisa Inanc
MSAC Meeting
The Member Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) meets Wednesday at 11 a.m. via Teams. The committee will consider an action item on the approval of revised guidelines for chargeable member services projects. The full agenda package is available on the Portal. Contact: Mike McCleary
Refurbish, Repair, and Disposal of Transformers Bid
Members interested in FMPA’s joint bid for Refurbish, Repair, and Disposal of Transformers should contact Sharon Samuels by Friday. Participation in the joint bid is open to all FMPA members. The scope of services includes minor repair of distribution transformers, recondition, remanufacture/rewind, regulator repair, recloser repair, and disposal of transformers, meters, and capacitors.
Demand Management Workshop
The All- Requirements Project (ARP) Executive Committee meets April 14 at 10 a.m. for a Demand Management Workshop at FMPA’s Orlando Office. The workshop will walk participants through FMPA’s upcoming needs and phased approach to exploring various forms of demand side management. The ARP overall capacity position has changed since 2014 and demand management can be a valuable tool for all ARP members. Participants can also join via Teams. Contact: Ken Rutter
Hometown Connections
FMPA signed an agreement with Hometown Connections to provide fee-based cybersecurity assessments for public power utilities throughout the nation. The assessments are designed to provide utilities with suggestions for enhancing their cybersecurity posture. Contact: Carter Manucy.
Purchasing Roundtable
The FMPA Purchasing Roundtable is scheduled for May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Orlando office. The roundtable provides a forum for purchasing personnel to meet with their peers from other member utilities to discuss work procedures, policies and practices, industry changes and other topics of interest.
