APPA National Conference
Jacob Williams spoke at the American Public Power Association (APPA) National Conference last week in Boston. He led a breakout session discussing the regional differences in generation mix and how this can affect pricing, and he also addressed the importance of policy and regulation decisions accounting for this. Additionally, during the conference, APPA named its 2026-2027 officers for its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) Executive Director Amy Zubaly was re-elected to a three-year term as Vice Chair of the APPA Board of Directors.
APPA Award Winners
Three representatives from Florida public power – one utility and two individuals – received APPA Awards last week at its Annual Conference in Boston. The City of Winter Park Electric utility received the E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award, which recognizes public power utilities with outstanding achievements. Manuel Ortega, who is the Chair of the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) Board of Directors, received the Spence Vanderlinden Public Official Award, which recognizes elected or appointed local officials who have contributed to APPA’s goals. Terry Torrence, who is the senior legislative representative at OUC, received the Harold Kramer-John Preston Personal Service Award, which recognizes member utility employees who have made significant contributions toward APPA’s goals and enhanced its prestige. Including these, APPA gave 36 awards to recognize 26 individuals and 10 utilities. Congratulations to the winners, and learn more about the winners from Florida here.
Member Satisfaction Survey
Great Blue Research recently distributed the biennial Member Satisfaction Survey. Completing the survey requires approximately ten minutes, and the results provide FMPA with important insights about the Members’ experiences and what services best benefit them. If you have not yet received the survey, please check with your IT department for any potential blocked emails from Great Blue. If you still have issues with receiving the survey, please contact Sue Utley or Susan Schumann.
RP3 Designation
As a reminder, applications are open now for the RP3 Designation. The American Public Power Association (APPA) awards the designation to utilities with demonstrated high proficiencies in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. While the deadline to apply is at the end of September, now is the time to work on your application to allow adequate time to gather all the necessary materials. The Member Services team is available to support your team with the process.
