Cane Island Unit 4 Marks 10 Years of Low Cost, Reliable, Clean Operations
Cane Island Unit 4 marks its 10-year anniversary of commercial operation on Monday. Since beginning operations on July 12, 2011, the plant has consistently exceeded expectations for reliability, efficiency and environmental performance. The unit has generated more than 18 million megawatt-hours and been available to operate nearly 89% of the time. The industry average for comparable units is 85%.  As one of FMPA’s baseload power plants, the unit has helped FMPA lower its power costs 36% since 2009. A special thanks to plant manager Jay Butters and the staff at Kissimmee Utility Authority, who operate the plant and keep it working efficiently.

General Fund Transfer Survey
FMPA is updating its survey of utility fund transfers for FMPA’s members. An email from Sue Utley was sent Monday with a link to this year’s survey. The survey includes seven questions and collects data on retail sales, total operating electric revenues and electric fund transfers. Responses are due by July 23. Results will be used to show the value of municipal electric utilities and the benefits that these transfers provide. Contact: Susan Schumann
