FMPA Recognized as Top Workplace for 2022
FMPA on Friday was named one of the Top Workplaces in Central Florida for 2022 by the Orlando Sentinel. The awards program recognizes companies that demonstrate a strong commitment to company culture and employee engagement. FMPA ranked 52 out of all companies with 35 to 165 employees. Companies recognized were chosen through an anonymous employee feedback survey conducted by Energage, an independent, third-party organization. The survey measured drivers of engaged company cultures that are key to the success of an organization.

ARP Rate Workshop
The ARP Executive Committee held a workshop last Tuesday to review the August All-Requirements Project loads, costs and rates. The average billed demand and energy cost was $109.05 per megawatt hour. Energy sales to participants were 0.7% above budget, bringing the year-to-date total to nearly 0.9% above budget. The average cost of natural gas was $10.36 per MMBtu, or 293.6% above budget. Board of Directors Meeting
FMPA’s Board of Directors met last Thursday and approved new benefits for FMPA employees and supplemental resolution modifications for new Series C loans for the Pooled Loan Project. ARP Executive Committee
The ARP Executive Committee met last Thursday and approved modifications to a resolution for the Pooled Loan Project. The committee also heard eight information items and agreed to meet on Sept. 29 to discuss adding additional thresholds to the natural gas price risk management strategy. APPA Business and Financial Conference
The American Public Power Association hosts its Business and Financial Conference on Monday through Wednesday in Savannah, Georgia. The program is designed for personnel in accounting and finance, human resources, information technology, pricing and market analysis, and risk management. City Manager Forum
Jacob Williams is attending a forum for city managers on Tuesday in Fort Meade. During the forum, Jacob will present on Florida’s electricity needs and how FMPA is working with its members to keep power affordable. Members interested in scheduling a similar presentation for their city or utility should contact Susan Schumann.

Key West Solar Workshop
Dan O’Hagan and Susan Schumann are attending a solar workshop for the Utility Board of the City of Key West on Wednesday. During the workshop, Dan will present on net metering and Susan will present on the Florida Municipal Solar Project.

Substation Maintenance Services Bid
The deadline to participate in the Substation Maintenance Services bid has been extended to Friday. The scope applies to services related to the inspection, maintenance, testing, repair and installation requirements for electrical power delivery equipment located in electric power substations and generating facilities. The bid will follow the FEMA-ready process, so members that plan to submit applications for FEMA reimbursement are encouraged to participate. NERC Industry Alert
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) recently issued a Level 2 alert for the electric utility industry to continue preparations for extreme weather events. The alert is in response to weather events that occurred during past winter seasons and is being issued as an interim to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Cold Weather Reliability Standards, which will be implemented on April 1, 2023. In its Level 2 alert in 2021, NERC recommended five actions for reliability coordinators, balancing authorities, transmission operators and generator owners to consider. The most recent alert includes three additional recommendations. Registered entities have until Oct. 6 to respond to NERC on their status. Contact: LaKenya VanNorman

Foreman Academy Certification Series
The third track of the Foreman Academy Certification series will be held on Oct. 24-28 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The training series provides crew leaders and general foremen with the knowledge and tools to lead crews efficiently, responsibly and safely. The deadline to register  is Oct. 12.
