O’Hagan Elected to TAPS Board
Dan O’Hagan was elected to the Transmission Access Policy Study Group (TAPS) Board of Directors. TAPS is an industry-wide association of transmission-dependent utilities located in 35 states that advocates for a robust transmission grid and competitive wholesale electric markets. FMPA participates on behalf of the Agency and its members.  

 

FERC Technical Conference
Dan O’Hagan participated in a technical conference on transmission planning cost management at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Oct. 6. Dan was one of eight panelists from across the country in a discussion on the development and use of local transmission planning criteria. A recording of the conference is available on FERC’s website. 

 

Executive Committee Workshop
The Executive Committee held a workshop last Wednesday to discuss the development of a natural gas price stability program, as well as plans to reduce the All-Requirements Project’s reliance on bond proceeds to support days of cash on hand. The committee provided FMPA staff feedback on a desired cash management plan, which would phase out reliance on bond proceeds by April 2023. FMPA will present the plan as an action item in November. Policy Makers Liaison Committee
The Policy Makers Liaison Committee met last Wednesday and heard four information items, including: 1) European electricity market update, 2) natural gas price stability and legislative updates, 3) Florida Municipal Solar Project update, and 4) summary of Hurricane Ian power restoration efforts. Finance Committee
The Finance Committee met last Wednesday and approved two action items, including: 1) Orlando Utilities Commission audit, and 2) 2023 meeting schedule. The committee also heard three information items. The agenda package is available on the Portal. Contact: Linda Howard 

 

Board of Directors
FMPA’s Board of Directors met last Thursday and approved three action items, including: 1) 2023 meeting schedule, 2) fiscal 2023 management goals, and 3) annual performance evaluations for FMPA’s General Manager and CEO and FMPA’s General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee met last Thursday and approved four action items, including: 1) 2023 meeting schedule, 2) Reedy Creek capacity and energy sale, 3) revised Rate Schedule B-1 to be effective Oct. 1, and 4) fiscal 2023 management goals. The committee also heard three information items. The agenda package is available on the Portal.

 

GRU Provides Substation Recloser to Fellow FMPA Member
Gainesville Regional Utility (GRU) provided a substation recloser to a fellow FMPA member last week after the member was unable to obtain the part, due to supply chain issues and other challenges. GRU had the part in its warehouse and no longer needed it for its electric system, so it offered the recloser to help the member restore the substation to normal operations.

 

Member Services Advisory Committee
FMPA’s Member Services Advisory Committee meets on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the FMPA Orlando office to elect a Vice Chair and to determine how the committee will fulfill member duties and responsibilities. FMPP Extreme Weather Event Exercise
Staff and members of the Florida Municipal Power Pool will participate in an extreme weather event tabletop exercise on Wednesday. The purpose is to test FMPP’s response if a similar event were to impact the state. Topics will include a review of the winter generation matrix, crisis planning and more. A WebEx option will be available for those not able to participate in person.

 

FERC Standards of Conduct Training
FMPA hosts a FERC Standards of Conduct training on Wednesday for Agency staff who support transmission projects. The standards of conduct are intended to prevent undue discrimination and preferences in the provision of transmission services by prohibiting marketing function employees from receiving preferential treatment or non-public transmission information. Contact: Dan O’Hagan

 

FMPA Power Generation Facility Tours
A group from the Ocala Electric Utility and the City of Ocala will tour the Harmony Solar Energy Center and Cane Island Power Park on Thursday. The purpose of the tours is to learn about FMPA and its power plants. Contact FMPA’s Public Relations Department if your utility or community is interested in a tour of FMPA’s power generation facilities.
