Jacob Williams Named Chair of FCG and FRCC Boards
Jacob Williams was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group (FCG) and the Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC). FCG represents Florida electric utilities on environmental issues impacting the industry. Jacob replaces outgoing Chair Clint Bullock of OUC. FRCC serves as a reliability coordinator and planning authority on behalf of its members. Jacob replaces Nelson Peeler of Duke Energy as Chair.
FMPA Celebrates 45 Years
Last Friday marked FMPA’s 45th anniversary. The Agency was formed on Feb. 24, 1978, following the oil embargo. At the time, municipal electric utilities were creating joint action agencies to enable individual utilities to provide affordable, reliable and clean electricity for their communities. APPA Legislative Rally
Representatives from FMPA, the Florida Municipal Electric Association and 16 Florida public power communities are in Washington, D.C., on Monday through Wednesday attending the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Legislative Rally. While in the nation’s capital, participants will meet with Senate and House members, and their staff, to discuss federal legislative issues related to tax, infrastructure, supply chain issues and more. Florida Lineman Competition
The Florida Municipal Electric Association hosts the Florida Lineman Competition in Orlando on Friday and Saturday. The competition provides public power lineworkers from across the state an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of the craft. Spectators are encouraged to attend Saturday’s events, which will be held in a field adjacent to Marriott Orlando Airport Lakeside.
National Electrical Safety Code Training
Lakeland Electric will host trainings on the 2023 National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) on March 13-15 and March 15-17. The NESC is the national standard for safety in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of electric utility supply and communication systems. Registered participants are required to bring either a printed or digital copy of the 2023 NESC to the session. Additional details and a link to register are available on FMPA’s website.
NERC Standard eSMART Demonstration
FMPA hosts a demonstration of MinMax’s eSmart tool on April 4 at 10 a.m. at FMPA’s Orlando office. The asset management, inspection, and meter exchange tool is designed to help utilities comply with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s PRC-005-6 standard. MinMax will be available after the training to speak with utilities. Space is limited. The deadline to register is March 25. Contact: LaKenya VanNorman
Member Services Advisory Committee
FMPA’s Member Services Advisory Committee meets on April 10 at 11 a.m. at the Orlando office. A Microsoft Teams option will be available for those not able to attend in person. Sue Utley emailed a calendar invitation to committee members. Contact: Sharon Adams
Lineman Roundtable
Registration is open for the Lineman Roundtable on April 13 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The roundtable is open to all levels of utility line crew personnel and provides a forum to exchange ideas on operating practices, safety, training, tools and equipment, and other common issues. The deadline to register is April 6. Contact: Sharon Samuels
Purchasing Roundtable
Registration is open for the Purchasing Roundtable on May 10 at FMPA’s Orlando office. The event provides a forum for purchasing personnel to meet with peers from other member utilities to discuss work procedures, policies and practices, industry changes, and other topics of interest.
