TOP NEWS

January All-Requirements Project Rates
The average billed demand and energy cost for FMPA’s All-Requirements Project in January was $90/MWh, approximately on budget. The all-in rate decreased by $1/MWh compared to prior month projections, although this was partially due to Pool billing issues for January costs that may ultimately have understated rates by $13-15/MWh. Participant energy sales were slightly above budget with late-month weather impacts. As the higher gas curve resulted in margins on the ARP’s fixed gas positions being returned to FMPA, the Rate Protection Account balance at the end of January was approximately $7.5M. FMPA fuel management achieved approximately $22M in savings for January, helping offset high spot gas prices. The forward rate projections have increased month-over-month due to a higher month-end gas curve. Additionally, the projected all-in rate for February is substantially higher than the prior forecast due to a combination of a high first-of-the-month gas price for February, anticipated high fuel and purchase costs in the first two days of the month due to WS Fern, and the true-up of the January Pool bill. Staff explained that options are available to help smooth the February energy rate and would be discussed in more detail at the Executive Committee meeting. The agenda package is available via the Portal.
